14N Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I was just wondering, when you guys use the 'Two Bucket Method' to clean your car, do you use hot, warm or cold water? Are there any pros/cons for using one or the other? Does one give a better result or dry better etc? Just a random thought! Quote
Arran Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Both hot when coming out of tap then by the time ive snow foamed and washed wheels its nicely warm Quote
cs2000 Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I tend to have it warm. I readon somewhere, years ago about a pro valeting company using warm water to not "shock" the paintwork. Whether its true or not it prefer warm water to freezing cold in my washmit. Quote

ilogikal1 Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 There's an argument that hot water shifts dirt better/easier than cold water (hence why washing machines, dishwashers, etc. use hot water), however I only have a cold water tap outside thus my pressure washer stage is all cold water. I do prefer warm water in the buckets though... but that's because it's preferable to sticking my hands in freezing cold water more than anything. Quote
frenshy Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I always use hot for the wash and cold for the rinse cause that keeps the spots away !! Quote
HaydnH Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I just washed my car and the water started steaming from the hot paintwork so I doubt hot or cold will make much difference today. Quote
downhuman Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Joking aside, the only recommendation I'd make in this weather is wash in the shade and invest in an inline water filter - then, in future, fill your buckets from this (and indeed your washer jets) Quote

S1 HNK Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Sometimes when I use really hot water I can hear the paint go "ooohhhhh" Come on what sort of a question is this? It's obvious that hotter water shifts the dirt better but not too hot so it doesn't burn your hands. Quote
spursmaddave Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I think the sort of people who say they can hear their paint sigh when the water is too hot are the sort of people who use wax you can eat Quote

Ekona Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Always hot in the wash bucket, cold in the rinse. By the time I've finished fannying around washing the wheels, the hot water is the perfect temp for the bodywork. Quote
