VQ35DE 240z Custom exhaust

Recommended Posts

Afternoon all,

AstroBoy here.

I’ve looked about for an answer on the forum but I haven’t be able to find anything so it’s a case of recommendations and word of mouth.

For those that don’t know me, I’ve got a 240z (1971) which will have a VQ35DE installed. It’s more than likely that I’ll need a custom exhaust setup.

Can anyone recommend a decent custom exhaust specialist that would be up for this kind of job? I’m based in the east midlands near Rockingham Raceway.

I hope someone can help....

Thanks in advance!

Not so sure why that font has come out tiny. Strange that.

Dedman, I only have one picture are the moment.

I don't know any down there. But you have to make a build thread that car sounds awesome.

Don't worry, I'll be making a website about it. As well as creating threads to show progress, problems and how I proceed.

It's the first time I'll really be getting my hands dirty but I've been involved with JDM type cars for few years now.

Anyhow, can anyone help with a custom exhaust specialist....

Thanks again.

Astroboy, you might find this thread over on the Kiwi forum interesting. We have a few 240z's over here running VQ35 engines.

Ki'ora bro! lol

Thanks for that link, think the same fella has written on Hybrid-Z before. Are you in touch with him or can you get his email address please?

He’s pretty much done everything that I’m planning to do, down to the Techno Toy Tuning suspension.

It seems that he’s created his own mounts which I have to shamefully ask him about as I want to create the same thing. As he has CAD files, it’d be good to grab hold of them and the dimensions too as It’d save me a shed load of ££ which can be put elsewhere.

As for the riveted arches, It’s something that I like but not sure if they are a fad or not. It’s just I’m aiming to keep the car for ages.

The last owner welded on wider metal arches as per the picture below.

That’s literally all the pictures I have for now.

Thanks in advance,

Excellent thread!

Not sure where you're based.

This guy is in Kent and he is excellent: http://solid-fabrications.co.uk/

Hey Wizard.

Thanks for the heads up on that link. The stuff he produces looks pretty good.

You mentioned that he is excellent. Have you used him before?

I also notice that you and the chubby ninja have superchargers. Ohhh that makes me go weak and the knees lol.

Anyhow, why a SC instead of TT? I know that the VQ will have a lot less weight to pull in a 240z so it should be a little faster?

My research says that the weights are:

240z = 1015KG (With L24 Engine – Cast Iron straight 6)

240z = 970KG (With a VQ35DE – Aluminum based engine that weighs approx 45kg lighter than the L24; apparently)

350z = 1446KG

AstroBoy = heavyweight

Anyhow, would I really be able to notice the difference? Just imagine adding FI onto the VQ35 in the 240z. Aghhhh.

Hello! :)

Yep I know Alan at Solid Fab well. He's done work on my car, my friends cars, my work colleagues car, plus he manufacturers a well known GT-R brands exhaust system as well (won't say who! lol). He's brilliant. Can go back to him any number of times and he'll sort you out...! :)

Went the s/c route because of the stock VQ internals really.

A 240z at 970kg with a supercharged VQ would be epic!!!! :yahoo:

EVERYONE WOULD NEED TO BOW DOWN!! :surrender:

Would you lose drivability due to it be very powerful and light?

Could well do.

I personally think after the VQ swop, I wouldn't do much more to it, engine/power wise except finding out the best suspension set up so it handles the best it can.

If I was to consider FI, I would seriously have to level up my talent behind the wheel, then try and take it to the limit (on a track of course) of the car before spanking lots of money on FI.

A guy stateside has done the conversion with a HR and is going to install twins on it. Nuts I know but it's a pretty special build.

Thanks for bringing that up though.
