Husky Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 (edited) Ok, so this is the challenge. I need to figure out how to get the car from my doorstep in coventry, to the GT4 specialist garage in blackburn without running the car. To this end, I took out RAC cover for "at home" and "recovery". That sounds simple doesn't it, but no it isn't, here's the shortened blurb regarding the service: RecoveryWe'll take you, up to 7 passengers and your car to your chosen destination anywhere in mainland UK. At HomeCover if your vehicle breaks down at home. If your car doesn't start at home, or within 1/4 mile of your house. If you don't want us to attend straight away it is also possible to book a time for one of our patrols to attend the breakdown at your home. Right, so I phoned them up and asked them to come look at the car, I also asked them to take it to the Blackburn garage. I was told, "no" because it was at home they would only take it as far as 10 miles to a local garage and if i wanted it to go further I'd have to pay. To me this feels at odds with the recovery cover I'd paid for. So I phoned back and cancelled the visit saying things were just dandy again This leaves me with the issue of getting it there still. So I can do the usual thing and tow the car a distance away from home and then call them and claim on the recovery, asking to be taken to my destination which was the garage in Blackburn. But I don't want to have to go there myself! It seems this is the only solution and I'm going to have to be driven by an RAC bloke 130 miles away from home so I can take a £45 train back. Anyone got any better ideas? Edited February 7, 2013 by Husky Quote
Arkwright Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 (edited) I have had my car recovered from silverstone to a garage in Nottingham by the RAC. I met the road patrol at the M1 service area (where the car was with a shot gearbox) Gave him the keys and told them they could recover it at their leisure. I got a lift home off a mate. They recovered the car later that evening, phoned me to say so and delivered it next day to my Nottm garage. They checked the vehicle for damage when I handed the keys over and I signed. did the same at the garage end and the garageman signed. no problem. Edited February 8, 2013 by Arkwright Quote

Husky Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 we actually discussed this but his jag can't have a tow bar. I think the RAC woman was just being a bitch. I think the plan is now to get it recovered to the garage on saturday morning and i'll go with them. then get drunk saturday night up in blackburn and make my way back down in a fixed car. Either that or my mechanic is happy to loan me his van to use for a week. Quote
BulletMagnet Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I'm sure the Jaaaaaaaag has a normal rear towing point. Quote

rtbiscuit Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 we toyed with the idea of a rope tow from cov to blackburn, but you can;t tow on motorways, so we would have to back road it all the way, if we got one of those solid tow mechs (a bar instead of a rope i'd be more enclined. I'm going to google it now. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_801253_langId_-1_categoryId_165551 thing is for the petrol for the jag to tow to blackburn its almost the same to pay for a tow truck Quote
