Lexx And you still want to drive it in the winter? with 500 at the hubs?! Step away from the Vodka and go buy a FWD drive shed for the winter months. 19's (IMO) are for show. I had them on mine, but I never tracked my car. If I did, I would have put a set of lightweight 18's on. My VXR8 had 440bhp, and I took that out in the winter one day later than I should have......ended up with £16k of damage and 6 months off the road for repairs. I have a run around for the dark months but you never know in an emergency like service MOT ect are all due in the Month of hell. I could easily change that . I was more thinking of the odd few mile run so the cobwebs don't settle. Abbey are going to address the slide problem if needed so choice of tyres will be top of the list. Incidently if I am going to get an issue it will be in 2nd gear but In the rain I go from 1st to 3rd. Trouble is you never know what life's situations throw at you. At present on the 050a anyone could slide it in the dry. Love the car to bits and slowly getting used to it. Fascinating subject like the chicken and egg. What comes 1st the tyres or the suspension I did find some but cannot remember there name. And they were about £380 each. Road race I think! I have flipped about and should have said in general not winter. I am fully aware that I can't zip about in winter. rtbiscuit Posted September 17, 2012 Share Posted September 17, 2012 near 400 bhp now and was fine in the winter and that was summer tyres as well. not saying it was a pleasant experience but its do able. if you really want to run 500 bhp in the winter, invest in a nice set of 18" wheels and bung some decent winter rubber on. with winter tyres narrow is better if your planning snow work. also narrow tyres are less likely to aquaplane than wider wheels. 18" also have a wider selection of tyre options for winter rubber. summer tyres are designed for summer, drop the temp to 0 degrees and below and the compounds rapidly lose effectiveness. doesn;t matter if your running michelin PS2's in the snow they will be alot worse than they should be. get some michelin winter tyres and you'll be laughing Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
rtbiscuit Posted September 17, 2012 Share Posted September 17, 2012 as for grip in general (summer tyres) bigger wheels help, but quality of tyre choice will have the largest impact. go for a good quality high performance spec like the MPS2 or the super sport or like a semi track tyre like the R888's will allow you to put the power down. if you go to 19" i think you'll struggle to find R888's but there are plenty of other options, but they do start to get expensive. Change lanes or apply some power whilst changing lanes? The vxr8 is no doubt an entirely different beast to the 350z, doesn't it make pretty much all the power from low revs? You can have an accident at any time, does that mean you should stop driving? What about patches of oil, they don't only happen in bad weather? What about patches of oil, they don't only happen in bad weather? falkens on the XKR and on the last car, both driven in snow, both been fine. i alwyas took the corners knowing i was going to slide, and drove it like a drift car all at low speeds, great fun for the drive to work. my issue in that weather though was not the snow or the car, it was other drivers in the snow, as most road users don;t seem to know how to drive in the snow. i drove my old zed in the snow on barely legal re040's in the snow, very twitchy, but i didn't die. There seems to be some kind of belief on here that powerful cars can suddenly develop minds of their own ansd steer you off into the nearest ditch/tree/bus shelter of nuns and orphans and it simply isnt true. People drive much lighter, more powerful and more vicious cars every day of the week in all manner of conditions, with traction contolr on or off and they are still there to do it again the next day. If you dont feel in control of your 3/4/500hp car in any conditions other than sheet ice you should consider buying something a bit slower, frankly. Maybe the incident Lexx refers to was unavoidable, but if that was the case any other car would have done the same.
