IRVO-LFC Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 guys left the z with a mechanic friend of mine for the day, had it up on the ramps to investigate a heavy knocking on the front drivers side? All ball joints, wish bone, bushes etc in good condition, brakes caliper ok, wheel bearing fine. living in Sheffield with some of the worst roads in the country(pot holes) it is a little un-nerving driving over bumpy roads, not being mechanically minded at all and getting a dont know what it is from my guy, i could do with a little help in settling my nerves, any ideas at all for me to investigate would be a great help. spursmaddave Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Personally I love heavy knockers.... I will get my coat Quote
IRVO-LFC Posted March 25, 2011 Author Posted March 25, 2011 mmmmmmmmmmm very constructive !!!! To be honest so do I, Quote
spursmaddave Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Sorry I know it wasn't much help Chance to use my favourite smiley too I'm sure someone sensible will be along shortly Quote
ATTAK Z Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 If it's suspension then look at drop links (easy diagnosis and fix) or banana bar (more difficult to diagnose but now also an easyish fix thanks to the Zmanalex Quote
Maccaman Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I assume the drop links were ok as well? Are you getting any sort of vibration through the steering? Quote
ATTAK Z Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Have a drive over to Donny .... I have mucho expensive experience of front suspension knocking Quote
Tricky-Ricky Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Shock top mounts will make a lot of noise if badly worn. Quote
ZMANALEX Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Could be numerous things, however, whatever it is I will have the parts in stock to fix. You have a pm mate. Alex. Quote
IRVO-LFC Posted March 26, 2011 Author Posted March 26, 2011 guys, thank you to all for your responses, gives me something to work on (or my mechanic friend) one thing i can add is, if i turn to the left at a reasonable speed i can also hear a binding noise not quite a grinding metal on metal sound, more as if something is binding on the wheel, but only on the left turn so i can only assume it has something to do with the same problem as this is also the L/H drivers side!! once again, thank you. Ekona Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 If the car is unstable at speed, then may I humbly suggest not driving it as silly speeds until you do get it fixed? Quote
spursmaddave Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 If the car is unstable at speed, then may I humbly suggest not driving it as silly speeds until you do get it fixed? Like 120mph on the M180? Quote
DoogyRev Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 If the car is unstable at speed, then may I humbly suggest not driving it as silly speeds until you do get it fixed? Like 120mph on the M180? PMSL ....... and that was only cos it would not go any faster Quote
Will370z Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Perhaps at those speeds the road noise overwhelms the knocking sounds... Quote
