You also need an 8TB NAS drive like Chesterfield. In fact just clone his drive as it's full of porn. , I have a 1TB wireless NAS but it's slowly filling up. (not with porn may I add). Chesterfield Posted March 3, 2011 Share Posted March 3, 2011 Nah, the dodgy stuff is stored on the 16TB archive under lock and key, all backed up onto DVD with an accompanying excel spreadsheet detailing date and time acquired with a star rating. In all seriousness though if you are going for a large screen and projector, I would highly recommend going for 1080p model. With a screen that size you will need all the quality you can get. Also, make sure that if you do have NAS you get the fastest drives you can, and look at size second. Faster drives will mean when you stream any media you wont get any stuttering. To be fair the slowest drives will probably support up to 3 1080p streams at once, but check the data transfer of the NAS when in RAID setup. (you will want raid to ensure you dont lose anything should a drive fail). CAT5e or CAT6 cables to any rooms will suffice, but if you run multiple cables to each room, you may in the future wish to transmit hdmi over ethernet. Chesterfield Posted March 3, 2011 Share Posted March 3, 2011 Thats a cracking drive, but it doesnt have any redundancy capability. i.e. if the hard drive inside that box dies, you lose all your data with it. In time, if you are building a project as you go along, I'd look at upgrading the store so you can grow that along with the project. RAID was usually reserved for corporate server environments, but is now much cheaper. Depending on the level of the solution you want it can be relatively cheap. Electronic billing, Electronic accounts, family and holiday photos, music collection, the list goes on. If you suddenly lost all that, it could be heartbreaking. Still have that digital photo of your sons first birthday, or the last christmas you had with grandad etc. how would you feel if the hard drive they are stored on broke? Thats what went through my mind when considering what I was going to do when it came to storing data. A cheap raid1 box can be as low as £120, and two 1TB drives for a raid1 solution would be about £40 each, so all in £200 and you have a 1TB store with protection against a dead drive. I bought a Co2 4.5mm BB 8" revolver last weekend (£175) and it's fantastic... its got brass shells that you load like the real thing. Very powerful. I've been really busy with training for a new job and holding down my current job at the same time. I rarely get time to visit the forums I am a member of at the moment. Rather than starting a new thread, I thought I'll revive this one. My man cave is a little different than the others here though. In the spare time I did have, I built my own home gym. I got fed up of paying extortionate amounts for my gym which was always packed and I would spend most of my time waiting to use something. Also, you get the stuff you need in a gym rather than what "fitness professionals" think you need (no disrespect to anyone here who may be a fitness trainer, but there are some really bad ones out there). Built it over a few weeks, it's about 15ft x 10ft. I would have liked to make it bigger but I used a concrete base already there from an old shed. Once finished I started moving in my equipment as well as adding a few bits, it is pretty much finished now. All I need to do is run a few more wires to give myself a few sockets so I can get my radio down there and an electric heater for the winter as the Calorgas one takes up too much space. I have just finished putting in some new gym mats to keep the noise down (less echo & stop weights crashing down a bit). Ignore the box in the background, that's sadly another hobby on hold at the moment due to lack of time. IronMaster Dumbbells.
