Gareth Walker Wins UKIPT Nottingham 2011

February 16, 2011 | by David | posted in Poker News

Gareth Walker has won first place in the 2011 UKIPT Nottingham event, managing to come out on top of a field of 1,058 contestants. This is a record number of participants for a live poker competition in the United Kingdom. Generating a prize pool of ₤529,000, this event stretched over four days before Gareth Walker won the title and ₤109,000 in prize money. Last year, Walker also reached the final table of this event but finished in 8th place with winnings of ₤7,600. This year, it was a different story at the UKIPT that is presented by PokerStars.

The ₤500 main event of the UKIPT Nottingham drew in 478 participants on Day 1a and these contestants were joined by an additional 580 players that entered into the action on Day 1b. By Day 2, there were 215 players that were still competing for the title. Following a ten hour battle at the final table, Gareth Walker emerged victorious, with Brett Angell finishing as runner up. Earlier in the event at a time when he was a strong favourite to win the tournament, Angell lost a pot worth one million chips. He managed to bounce back but the title was not to be his.

At the final table of 8 players, David Heaton from the U.K. was the first to be eliminated and finished with winnings of ₤7,950. Thomas Rolfe, also from the U.K. was the next to be forced to leave and he did so with ₤13,750. Chris Dowling from Ireland finished in 6th place with ₤19,050. Mike Hill from the U.K. was the next to leave with ₤24,350 in prize money. In fourth place was Tim Bettingen from Germany who qualified via PokerStars and finished the event with ₤31,700. Romano Pizzo from Italy came in 3rd place with ₤40,750 in prize winnings. Second place in this event went to U.K.’s Brett Angell, who also qualified via PokerStars and earned ₤68,700 for his efforts.

Having just won the largest ever live poker event in the U.K. to date, Gareth Walker is expected to be participating in the remaining events of the UKIPT 2011. The next stop for this season’s UKIPT is Manchester and this event will be taking place from 10th to 14th March, 2011.

PokerStars is seen as the best of all uk online poker sites because they offer players the chance to qualify for UKIPT and EPT events very cheaply, and this is also the reason they are listed best of all australian poker sites, due to offering satellites to their ANZPT events.

I just googled "gareth walker owes money", amazing :scare: I don't know how some people can live with themselves!!? He clearly is an unscrupulous piece of humanity with little regard for anyone but himself, makes me sooooo angry :angry: The trouble is he appears to have got away with it too on more than this forum. :boxing::boxing:

Have a look around many other forums too. :bangin:
