if it's about 1 1/2 inches long (37mm for the youngsters) then it's a Hornet - allegedly docile but i wasn't waiting to find out when we had 1 on the carpet last year

Hmmm, seen hornets in my garden but never looked like this one. Hornets, Docile,Had one chase me up the garden a few weeks ago... :scare:

Agree with Rich, most likely a hornet, don't usually sting humans unless you go near their hives. Some peeps have a bad reaction to their sting if they do get stung.

 

That was just a baby you killed :scare:

Seen as i have a very bad phobia of wasps and bees. (much to the amusement of everybody in the gym when my mate chased me with a dead one)

 

If i seen that at my house. Id move :blush:

My mum recently bought a thing that looks like a tennis racket except with metal strings and its got a current running through it. Great for swiping pesky flies, makes them explode in mid air. Probably cruel but ah well, trespasser's.

My parents have one of those too. Even better to use on your brother or sister when they don't expect it. I always find elbows or tops of ears get the best reaction :)
