chrisjones6699 Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Good afternoon everyone! My mother's Mondeo has blown up and now she's after a new car. She has 8k to spend on one. I have recommended a VW or a Honda. Something bullet proof that will last forever and comfortable. She does have a caravan but only drives it about 4 miles each trip! The VW i have recommended is this.... http://www.bobdaviescarsales.co.uk/vehi ... ID=1224698 And the Honda. Its the 2004 executive at the bottom.... http://www.rylandhonda.co.uk/showroom/cars/used_cars/ So let me know what you think or if you have any recommendations Cheers guys Chris Quote
chrisjones6699 Posted May 1, 2010 Author Posted May 1, 2010 She's had Fords forever and think she want's out now Quote
Greekman Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 golf it is then. honda jazz as well but would never pull a caravan...it can hardly pull itself Quote
nixy Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Golf definitely but what about a Honda Civic? great reliable little cars. Quote
spursmaddave Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 If you can't think of anything else you won't do better than a golf. Quote
Ebized Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 If it is reliability - Honda every time - get a decent Accord for that money and about the same size as a Mondeo. Quote
spursmaddave Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 If it is reliability - Honda every time - get a decent Accord for that money and about the same size as a Mondeo. Or a Mazda 6 if you want something a bit different from a Mondeo Quote
bronzee Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 If it is reliability - Honda every time - get a decent Accord for that money and about the same size as a Mondeo. Or a Toyota of some description. Pretty bullet proof, doesn't matter what happens they still keep going. Seen so many abused by different people and they keep going. Just don't think about accelerator issues. No worse than any other company when it comes to that. Quote
cfoster Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 My mum has a Honda Civic (58 plate) and loves it, its the 1.8 SE with panoramic roof etc... She loves it, VERY practical, she reckons with the seats folded down it has more storage than her old Honda CRV thing, does 37mpg and is pretty nippy!! Sure you can get them for around 8k. Quote
geoff-r Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 How old does she want to go? I'd say any 320 CDI Merc. The things are comfortable as hell, my family love them so much we have 2 E320 CDI estates and a C320 CDI, they fly as well and return +45mpg. Quote
rtbiscuit Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 my mum has the jazz and loves it, the storage in it is un belivable with the chairs folding multiple ways she gets all 3 dogs in no problems. i dorve it abit here and there and its not a bad runner. shes had it for about 5 years now and its never had a problem Quote
Stew Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Hondas are great. My Mum has had two Civics and is now in a CRV. My sis had two civics two and is now in a quashqai thing. Both are spacious etc but if it were my money I'd pick the CRV everytime - great car for the money. My old man thinks it is as capable in the snow as his Range Rover was, that was on snowy roads rather than pulling trees acrooss muddy fields! Golfs are alright, nothing to get excited about in my opinion. Quote
rtbiscuit Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 wife just got rid of her golf, found it the most un inspiring car, dull to sit in and dull to drive. Quote
chrisjones6699 Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 Hmmm lots of opinions here! Thanks all! We've been to see a golf plus, nice looking but the guy who owned it before must of been a chain smoker because it smelt vile! Still no decision yet though. I'm thinking a Jazz..... Quote
sasha@lazytrips Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 You could probably pick up a JDM zed with a few miles for £8k Quote
chrisjones6699 Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 As much as i would love to see that, i dont think the zed has the space that she's after! Quote
sasha@lazytrips Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 As much as i would love to see that, i dont think the zed has the space that she's after! Well you know what the answer is then... Get her a Skyline. Quote
BulletMagnet Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 As much as i would love to see that, i dont think the zed has the space that she's after! Well you know what the answer is then... Get her a Skyline. Or for practicality, don't get a Skyline....get a Stagea instead Quote
chrisjones6699 Posted May 28, 2010 Author Posted May 28, 2010 She settled for a 307 in the end!! Glad she took my advice!! Quote
