neo Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 my 350z keyfob as had just over 5 years of use and was pretty much worn smooth plus a few scratches so thought i'd 'freshen' it up slightly i haven't used spray paint since making model cars about 25 years ago anyways, used http://www.plasti-kote.co.uk/Product/pcode---4427 (BLUE METALLIC and FLAT WHITE, just over a £5 for both) i'm more than happy with them so took some pictures of the stages. did them on the sunday morning, white first, left to dry 2 hours, then 1st coat of blue, left again for 3 hours (as in the multi pic) then did the final coat, left till now but it still feels a little 'tacky', perhaps i put the coats on too thick ???? might give it a clear lacquer just to fully seal it (drying time on cans said 3hrs and the website says 24hrs ) Quote

rtbiscuit Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 clear coat will help with durability, and items that small you can bake them in the oven to speed up the process. Quote
H5 Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 You should add 'UK exclusive' to the title Lyndon!! Quote
ChrisS Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Plasticote is great stuff, but does not like drying in the cold. Don't use Halfrauds lacquer , it eats Plasticote........... I know cos I did it. Nice job. Oh and it is strong stuff, used a lot of it in the past. Quote

I can also confirm that Halfords clear lacquer just dissolves away this paint. I haven't tried other lacquers to see if they are any better, though. Good job on the key fob, by the way. I might try that as well! Quote
neo Posted January 5, 2010 Author Posted January 5, 2010 i know plasti-kote do a clear spray so might give that a whirl on a test piece first not a bad match to azure blue too Quote
ChrisS Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 http://www.plasti-kote.co.uk/Product/pc ... ode---3620 I think this is the one needed not the plain clear as that's water based. Might dig out some of the stuff I've done...(but it's not on cars,it's on wood and MDF) Quote
neo Posted January 5, 2010 Author Posted January 5, 2010 thx chrisS, will pop down at the weekend and get some Quote
