mbs Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 The world-famous Red Arrows have been banned from appearing at the 2012 London Olympics because they are deemed 'too British'. Organisers of the event say that the Arrows military background might be 'offensive' to other countries taking part in the Games. The display team have performed at more than 4000 events worldwide, but the Department of Culture, Media and Sport have deemed the display team 'too militaristically British'. Red Arrows pilots were said to be 'outraged', as they had hoped to put on a truly world class display for the Games, something which had never been seen before. Being axed from a British-based event for being 'too British' is an insult - the Arrows are a symbol of Britain. The Red Arrows have been excellent ambassadors for British overseas trade, as they display their British-built Hawk aircraft all over the world. The Arrows performed a short flypast in 2005 when the winning bid was announced, but their flypast at the Games was to have been truly spectacular. It is to be hoped that common sense prevails, so if you disagree with this decision, please sign the petition on the link. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/RedArrows201 ... Arrows2012 Please forward this on to everyone you can. Quote
Stew Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Signed. Surely the olympics is a chance to show off our armed forces and be proud of them? I understand some may take offence but to be honest the people who would take offence shouldn't be getting Visas issued to visit for the olympics..... Quote
Trev-the-Rev Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Signed. Had a bit to do with these guys when I was with Lotus Cars - fantastic displays of piloting. Quote
jim Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Signed. I'm not a great fan of military parades and the like, but a bit of spectacular flying from some of the best pilots in the world will always enhance an event like that. This is just ridiculous. Quote
lomoto Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 what next ?? we wont be allowed to fly the Union Jack as that is deemed to British....mind you if we let any more East European's in we may as well fly the red flag Quote
captint Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 You have to be fooking joking. I blame Ken Livingstone, not for any particular reason, just he's a pointless c@ck Signed Quote
bigphil Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 signed, this country is fast becomming the joke nation. Quote
Sarnie Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Pathetic. What if we put a Polish flag on the planes? Will that make them less offensive? Signed. Quote
Chris`I Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Signed. This is a joke. Be interesting to see if the Beijing Olympics are too Chinese Quote
Tere Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Ummmm.... Can a Yank sign the petition? The Arrows are the premier aerial demonstration team in the world. Please don't tell my Bird buddies I said that. It isn't anything about military damn it. It's all about the beauty of flight and what it symbolizes to humankind. You've got to be pretty short-sighted not to understand that. If you've read Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach (USAF pilot by the way), then you'll really understand what it is that the Arrows demonstrate like no other. Freakin' no mind, zipper-head, gravel crunching, BB stacking bureaucrats are a bane to the earth. Quote
Zedman Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Signed up. But, what I want to know, is who comes up with this load of twaddle. Is it a goverment dept or an individual? It says organisers, but who are they? Quote

Zedrush Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 , I bet Ken Livingstone would still back it even if it was true as he is an undercover shiite Quote
