Really bad MPG following long time off the road

The car was in for paint and other bits through the winter and spent about 5 months off power completely.

Now I can't seem to get more than 16mpg tops whereas 24 was more the average.

Do I need to do the pedal dance? Will that help to reset the ECU? NO other alterations to the car in this time, just cosmetic...!

Definitely worth doing the pedal dance to reset ECU, reset throttle and learn again. If none of these helps, next step would be cleaning the intake system.

Is there any risk to doing this? I'm not gonna eff up my car if I get this wrong? I'm going to the Ring in 3 days and need her to be in top shape!

No way to mess anything up doing the pedal dances, I think Davey was referring to the cleaning of the intake system. That's not something I'd be attempting before a Euro trip, rather I'd be putting up with high fuel usage and sorting when I got back. Worst case it's running rich, but unlikely to be to the point of bore wash.
