Guest Posted February 27, 2017 Share Posted February 27, 2017 Hi all =) I need new pads an discs on my tree-fiddy HR, I'm guessing either a warped disc or dtv, with the pulsing and noise gradually getting worse. After researching a bit on here and looking into products from companies such as Ferodo, Carbotech, Performance Friction, DBA, I spoke with my mechanic to see if he had any thoughts. He dismissed all of those as generic brands and recommend EBC discs and pads. Apparently he uses EBC on most of his vehicles, R34 skyline included, and thinks they're excellent, but I'm not comfortable with how he out of hand dismissed a swathe of brands that I know are recommended by others, and I've heard mixed reports regarding EBC. I guess I'm looking for others thoughts and experiences relating to EBC, are they good, and recommendations if there is better available. I'm probably over thinking it, I'm just aware of a lot of brake companies including the likes of Pagid, Stoptech, etc, and wouldn't want to go on one person's say, when they ignored anything I had already looked into. My 350z is my daily, but I would like to try some track days this year so I suppose I'm looking at something good from cold, but won't disappear in flames on a track. coldel Posted February 27, 2017 Share Posted February 27, 2017 Nothing wrong with certain EBC brakes, but sounds like he is just wanting to flog you EBC as he probably puts a decent mark up on them. Strudul Posted February 27, 2017 Share Posted February 27, 2017 (edited) I'm sure I remember reading that EBC were budget brakes and got rather mixed reviews, and generally recommended to get something better for track use. He probably gets a good deal on EBC. Question is whether he is pocketing the extra profit or passing the savings on to you. I use stoptech discs and hawk pads and have been really impressed with them. Daily driving and a few track days and I'd definitely buy again. DBA are also supposed to be good. I'd rather get the best I can afford than save a little, I'm a bit OCD. If I know that something in my price range is better, I will get that instead. Sargara Posted February 28, 2017 Share Posted February 28, 2017 EBC are perfectly fine for daily driving, I fitted their Yellow ones to my Megane RS250 and did a couple of track days on them as well, no issues what so ever. They used to have a bit of a bad rep with their old products but their current range is good. Based on your requirements I'd say your mechanics recommendation is spot on from a price point. I threw some on in an emergency (I hadn't planned properly ) and did a track day the next day, no bedding in at all and hammered the crepes out of them all day. I've driven on RS29's for must be 10 years and they are great from cold and handle all the track work you can throw at them, they aren't too aggressive to discs and out last most others too which goes a huge way to justifying their price tag in my opinion, don't even have bad manners in terms of noise either. The one and only down side I find is that the dust they produce does need to be cleaned off wheels fairly quickly and that's about it. I think I'm right in saying proper Porsche's come with these fitted so as for legality I'm sure they are good too Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
