Commander Posted August 16, 2016 Share Posted August 16, 2016 Well, after a year off in 2015 we're soon to depart for our third Euro Road Trip with a fleet of seven cars bound for the Alps. This year's motors include; TVR Tuscan 4.0 Mk1.5 TVR Tuscan 4.0 Red Rose Mk1 SL55 AMG RX7 Lotus Elise w/ Honda Civic TypeR engine 335i Z4 At 11 days it's a long trip, but we're cramming in most of our favourite passes and we're doing fewer miles per day than previous trips so we can cram in a few more stops for photos, aerial footage from the drone, a few afternoons rock climbing and a stop at a WW2 fort in France. All the ticket and pay booths are are the wrong side of the car. Try and get a prepay pass. Would make it easier and faster to get through booths. First night in France and the 335i rolls in to the car park with a massive oil leak from the oil filter housing. Managed to find and fit a spare from the local BMW dealer. Visited a WW1 Fort. RX7 tail light and boot light now repaired. Who mentioned ABS and Traction Control? None of that in a TVR! TVRs are winning the noise and public appreciation competition by miles - it's funny how many people stop / stare / comment / take pictures! Commander Posted August 23, 2016 Author Share Posted August 23, 2016 Yesterday we did Susten, St Gottard, Furka, Nufenen, St Gottard the other way, Susten the other way & Grimsell. Traffic was variable and there were several km of roadworks in places, but still a world class set of roads. All of the TVR's bad handling characteristics are forgiven when it's on a smooth flowing road up the side of a mountain with no traffic. Bloody excellent! The roadworks near the Gottard pass 2 weeks ago were such a pain and the motorway had severe delays too but it was so worth it when you drive those roads. Did you do the old cobbled gottard pass? Commander Posted August 24, 2016 Author Share Posted August 24, 2016 Minor issue with my TVR - voltage sensor has failed so have a constant 0volts warning on my dash along with a relentless buzzer. Commander Posted August 25, 2016 Author Share Posted August 25, 2016 27 degrees yesterday and my TVRs fans and aircon have stopped working. The inside is a warm place anyway but yesterday was mad - I drank 3.5 litres of water and didn't take a single leak... Sweaty! It also turns out that the ecu isn't very good at adapting to thin air so anything above about 8000ft and you can feel / hear its limitations. Also had a voltage sensor fail temporarily, so the dash was alarming zero volts, even though I can prove 13.5v on my multimeter... This fixed its self after stopping for Gelato in Bormio.
