Exec Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 How long would you expect an OEM clutch to last? Quote
Juggalo Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Piece of string question. I had a from new handmedown Pug 406 from my dad that I sold on with 236,000 on it's original clutch. Quote
The Trouser Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 (edited) I'm on 115k on my original clutch after buying from new 12 years ago if that is any help There are others with higher mileage than this Edited July 10, 2016 by The Trouser Quote
RyanT Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 I'm in a similar position where I'm not sure if mines been done with over 100k on the clock. If it has been done, great! If not, great! The car must have had a fairly easy life for it to have lasted so long. Quote
GMballistic Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 All depends on how the cars been driven Exec. My Zed even after I supercharged it was still on its OEM clutch/flywheel @88K-95K miles odd. Some cars well over 100K easily as The Trouser proves. Quote
Exec Posted July 10, 2016 Author Posted July 10, 2016 Today I smelt a burning smell, I know there are many variables. Only on 58k but I don't know how the car was driven the 8 years before I owned it Quote
Karl92 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Im on 70k still on the original clutch but i do have a new one ready to replace, i think they're a pretty sturdy part but as said it all depends how the cars been driven previously Karl Quote
Sargara Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 42k here and the original clutch is on its last legs. Its creaking when engaged/disengaged and its heavy but its not slipping so I'm playing a waiting game for a large bill Quote
Banz Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Can someone explain the symptoms of clutch slipping or when you know the clutch is going? Quote
Ekona Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 When you push the throttle pedal and the revs shoot up but the speed does not increase. 1 Quote
RS8055 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 As Dan said. When mine started slipping, it starts in the higher gears first. So in 6th gear, I'd floor it and the revs would jump and no acceleration, then gradually 5th gear had the same symptoms and then a little in 4th gear. At that point, I managed to drive it all the way to Sly's in Rochester from Luxembourg (around 550 miles). Reason for that, Nissan dealership told me it would be around £2900 just for a new clutch and flywheel (not including labour costs)... got it all done at Sly's for less than £1000 Quote
Banz Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 I definitely don't have that problem then. Mine definitely is still going strong! Quote
