OllyB Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 (edited) I may have made a c*** up. I've got an akebono brake kit to fit to my 350. Will this kit fit under standard rays? Everyone I spoke to seemed confident they would but i've found a few threads on other forums that suggest they dont. Anyone running these brakes with rays? Edited December 6, 2015 by OllyB Quote
Mark@Abbey m/s Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Some people Ray's fit over the 370Z brakes others say they don't Olly. Even running spacers may help the Rays fit. Quote
OllyB Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) Hi Mark. I've found lots of info saying the touring wheels fit and just assumed that the rays would as they are less chunky but I've found a few saying they don't. I'll have to get a template made and check... Don't really want to add spacers. Edited December 8, 2015 by OllyB Quote
Shenley Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) I googled this and there is a picture of a set of grey Akabono's with a Rays wheel. My iPad wouldn't let me copy and paste the link as it was a sub menu.Plenty of pics with the GT wheel as that was standard OEM in the States. Of course the 17" steel space saver will not fit the Akebono fronts. (powered up colossus in the office) Edited December 8, 2015 by Shenley Quote
OllyB Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) Thanks shenley. Hopefully they will fit, there's talk on some of the US forums of shaving the edges down which is not something I want to do.... Edited December 8, 2015 by OllyB Quote
Bodyboarder81 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I have been told from ian on here that they do ..... He had akabonos on his 50 and tried the rays over it , so has first hand knowledge 1 Quote
Jonnymonno Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I sold mine to a chap on here for his 350 and he's not rang to say he has had a problem 1 Quote
Jonnymonno Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Yorrite on here. Drop him a pm to see if everything went ok Quote
OllyB Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) That's good to hear. Looks like I'll have a set of brembos for sale rather than the akebonos.... Hell who am I kidding, would have been a good excuse for new wheels... Edited December 8, 2015 by OllyB Quote
Jonnymonno Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I have a set of 370z Rays for sale on here Quote

OllyB Posted February 8, 2016 Author Posted February 8, 2016 Ok, I know its taken me a while but finally got the last few bits to do this and thought for piece of mind I'd check the clearances with the template. Doesn't look like I'm going to be in luck..... Might just try a trial fit...... Quote

OllyB Posted February 8, 2016 Author Posted February 8, 2016 Yea I agree, appears to have a spacer, it's not the clearence on the spokes that worries me tho, seems to be enough, it's the internal diameter of the wheel that's causing the most concern. Looking at the photo I posted you can see the lug holes are way out. Quote
Jetpilot Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Definitely go for a trial fit on one side and if not, why not a spacer? Quote
OllyB Posted February 8, 2016 Author Posted February 8, 2016 I don't mind adding a small spacer but don't think it will help in this instance it's the overall internal diameter of the wheel that's too small.... Quote
Jetpilot Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) Apologies, i thought the rays had a little chamfered on the inner. Edited February 8, 2016 by Jetpilot Quote
OllyB Posted February 8, 2016 Author Posted February 8, 2016 They are but its not catching anywhere other than the actual barrel of the wheel... Quote
OllyB Posted February 8, 2016 Author Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) Well results are in... The breaks are huge and look awesome But Catch on the inside of the rim.... Bugger..... Edited February 8, 2016 by OllyB Quote
Jetpilot Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Good excuse for some new rims Every cloud and all that Quote
Adrian@TORQEN Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Damn, Olly, wasn't expecting that. So do you reckon spacers won't help, is the diameter smaller where it touches than the rest of the wheel? Quote

That is what i was trying to say in my post, i thought the inside of the wheel got wider towards the hub edge. Quote
OllyB Posted February 8, 2016 Author Posted February 8, 2016 I don't think a spacer will held much, there pretty uniform across the wheel, I might pack a few washers onto the studs to see if it makes a difference, looked like it was going to be ok untill I got the lug nuts tight.... Quote
