  5. Worse case - It could shatter and blow metal bits into your gearbox thus requiring a rebuild/replacement
  6. This is what my flywheel was like, i.e no resistance between the inner and outer flywheel and just hitting either stops
  7. Nope flywheel can wear independly ... depends on if it has had a new clutch in its lifetime. <- good animation of a dual mass flywheel but in simple terms: Its basically one flywheel inside another, connected by a high resistance spring. When the clutch engages it hits the first inner flywheel that will spin slightly on the play of the spring, once the spring has got too stiff it will start to spin the whole flywheel. Basically it is designed to give the car a smoother engagement as its almost a progressive engagement of the flywheel! If that spring has worn, it will no longer be a smoother transition from the inner to the outer flywheel it will cause the inner flywheel to hit the extremeity of the stops and will engage the secondary (outer) fly to start spinning immediately. If you are not doing a full throttle launch and you are engaging the clutch gently (i.e. you are letting the clutch slip slightly as per normal) the noise you may hear would be the inner flywheel hitting the metal stops several times before being fully engaged. When I had this issue my clutch bite was really good but the noise was still there. Once the gearbox had been removed it was evident the clutch was pretty much a brand new and a knackered flywheel. Hope this answers your questions. Dan
  8. I would say your noise is the OEM flywheel wearing. There are two types of flywheel noise, one where the OEM dual mass is wearing out therefore the springs aren't what they used to be therefore the flywheel actually touches the metalic stops. Once fully engaged it you wouldn't hear it! It appears (when its at its worst) as an inital clunk with a little bit of metalic chatter after that. If this is the noise I would firstly get a garage to check it out and look to replace the flywheel and clutch ASAP. Note: On idle you shouldn't hear anything as the dual mass flywheel is disengaged. If you have an uprated flywheel (and clutch) the metalic noise will be heard on idle aswell as first engagement.
  9. Rob most trickle chargers will have a polarity check aswell - so should be safe. As suggested before whip it off and take it to somewhere that has decent equipment
  10. Because they dont come with a Y pipe from the facotry (probs the reason why people dont) unlike the 5zigen, Nismo etc
  11. Seriously, I am lucky if i get my Sainsbury's shopping home in 1 piece let alone a dog! If you dont kill it driving him your'll make it retarded by bouncing its head off all the plastics. Tell your sister to buy a volvo or a scooby legacy!
  12. take it you dont go on my350z.com then lol? That one is far superior to all UK forums!
  13. There appears to be alot of negativity associated with Imports and I'm unsure why? Few things i love about my JDM, all the little bits really Interior Auto roll up windows on both sides, (and not just driver's side like on UK) Doors unlock on both sides on 1 click of the remote Footwell lights (that dims like the map light) Not an all black interior (lighter grey down the centre console) Nicer (thinner) air con controls. Lights in cubby hole boxes (think that is just JDM) Exterior Better looking rear bumper with no toe eye cover or letterbox numberplate (In my opinion of course) No Headlight washers, Much cleaner looks (have never felt the need to clean my headlights whilst driving, EVER!) Some JDM's mirrors fold in on locking Engine ECU non restrictive to mods (With an exhaust/ Filter and plenum im running 285bhp) Car tax - £180 Insurance - Never seen a difference between UK and JDM prices
  14. Yeah I think those Z badges look awful, Nissan badge or nothing in my opinion
  15. Love your new wheels Clarkie , using these as my winter wheels now
  16. Car hadn't really moved in a few weeks and thus had collected dust and grime, but the little driving I did was in the rain so the car was well overdue a clean, I must admit I had forgot how nice the azure blue came up, so much so that a took a couple of pics with my phone Then I started playing with some of the macro settings Nothing new but just like some of the shots Dan
  17. cracking write up Paul, Only thing to note, aren't the kenetix's A arms the ones that failed on Adam's car (i know he probably puts cars under slightly more pressure than 99% of us)
