Conservative bloke won ours on second preference, apparently. I read his gumpf, he didn't say anything he was going to do but just gave a list of principles. Easier to do that than risk looking a liar when the public realise you've got no cash to spend At least the independant woman nominee didn't win, she wanted to press ahead with "improvements to road safety", i.e. speed cameras

I quite like the design of the Supra cockpit, very similar to the NSX, but like you say the materials do look their age now.

But an Evo or Scoob is £10K, a C63 or M5 is at least twice the price but with less than twice the performance. It's why every man and his dog went and bought the Jap twins, mega thrills for un-mega money.

I don't need the Zed to be 10/10, I need it to be 8/10 but with a few casual refinements. My last Zed was a compromise between balls out and GT comfort, my next one won't have to satisfy the balls out as I have the MX5 for that now. The 986 is very well built, it's just the 5% suffering IMS failures that is a risk I'm not prepared to take right now, Same reason I bought the gen2 997 instead of the gen1. You're right in that the Boxster would be the cheaper choice short term, but I can afford to play with the Zed over a few years. I don't have to have the best car, I have to have the best car for me. The Boxster is the best car, but it's not the best car for me right now. If it was as simple as that, I'd keep the 911!

I still have no idea where my polling station was. Stupid idea, utter waste of time and money even if the theory behind it is sound.

I refuse to believe that neither of you were familiar with spam emails containing viruses in the attachments before today. It's not AV software that catches this, it's common sense. Not opening attachments where you don't know the sender is the first rule of email, and has been in place for at least 10 years now.

It's a fair question. I don't want a convertible as I've got the '5 for that, but I could still get an early Cayman (just!) for the Zed budget so your question nearly remains the same. Truth is I want something I can mod with ease, and something that's not got the potential for £5K bills if the engine goes pop. An M96/97 engine always has that risk, whereas even if the V6 lump goes pop it's only a grand to get a replacement. With the house purchase taking up most of my spare cash, I'm looking for a cheap GT car that can replace the 911 for long journeys. Sure, the Boxster could do that just as easily if not better, but again we're back to the money side of things. Same reason I stopped looking at 996 911s too. In terms of keeping the cars running the cost will be the same with regards to fuel, tyres, servicing etc, so it's just the big bills I'm trying to avoid. As far as driving characteristics go, I personally would rate the Boxsters considerably higher than the Zed, but that says more about the Porker than the Nissan. If the Boxster is 10/10, then the Zed sits at about 8/10 but without the risk factor. Having done the very fast car thing now, I'm more than happy to settle for "less" if it means I can have some proper fun in it and mod to my heart's content. They're brilliant cars, and I regret selling mine as I was just getting started with exploring the engineering side of it so there's a bit of unfinished busines if you will! I guess what I'm really trying to say is the age old adage of buying a fun car with your heart. The Boxster is the better car, but it's not what I want and it's not like the Zed is a complete dog either. I can't say I'm not gutted to be leaving Porsche ownership, but equally I'm looking forward to having something a bit more playful again too.

No offence mate, but these things are hardly rare: I must get 10 a day, and they've been going for years now. Tbh unless you're a 100 year old using a computer for the very first time, no-one should be falling for this kind of stuff anymore and if you do, then you probably deserve it. The thought behind the post is good, but if we all did it then there'd be nothing else but virus warnings on the board!

Look less dull maybe, but it would still drive like a turd with dull lifeless steering. Oh, and fail wheel drive either permanently or 90% of the time. X3s are utterly useless for what they are supposed to do. Cramped, horrible interior (by BMW standards) and a weak chassis/suspension design. If you need the room, either get an older X5 or get a 330/335 estate. On the other hand, since its launch the Boxster has been the definitive sports car by every sensible measure (bar price perhaps), and that holds true today. Even the old 2.5 is still a great thing to drive, and with the choice out there you'll easy find one to your own spec. Just be aware of IMS and to a lesser extent RMS issues, and go in with your eyes wide open.

I've not driven an S2K a whole lot, but I'd still say at 10/10ths it's more fun than the Zed. I'd still prefer the Nissan though as its a much more rounded package, and I prefer the sound of a V6 to the screaming 4-pot.

It's like you live in my head, dude.

Wow. Just... Wow.

I want to vote, but have not received a single bit of info about it. I have no idea where my local polling station is, no ballot card received either. Naff all on the official websites regarding this either, which is very poor. One of our nominees is an ex-copper, so I'm voting for him. The others are either saying very little because they're political and no they have no money to spend, or they're an independant getting ideas miles above their stations: One want to change sentencing so that 5 years means 5 years, which is great in principle but if the entire houses of Parliament can't do it along with the entire judiciary, I suspect they may be a tad out of luck!

Send them a letter via signed for post explaining the situation along with a cheque for £25. Let them take the next move after that, no chance in hell a court would find in their favour after that.

Oi, I like the RE050As! But yeah, don't get the Eco ones. Get the proper ones, they're very good indeed.

Excellent post mate, that's a really good read and a top result, well done all! -
True, which is why I don't mind about the chat stuff getting repeated, but given that all the info is here about intakes and exhausts and oil changes and turbo kits etc, why should the people that have spent their valuable time writing these informative posts then be spoon feeding others who are simply too lazy to search? If someone makes an effort to search but still can't find what they're looking for or hasn't used quite the right terms then I'll happily help out, but if someone just sticks their head through the door and asks what the differences are between a DE, revup and HR then I'm kinda loathe to repeat myself for the millionth time. Maybe it's just me, but if someone makes an effort then I'll make one too, but if they don't then why should I?

Without trying to sound like I'm jumping on you, by starting a new thread you've just made it harder for the next person who comes along to search for something as there's one more thread in the results list. Not too bad with general chat stuff like this, but certainly on the tech side it's much easier if all the info you need is in one thread rather than spread out over 20 pages of them.

But if you've not got a UV filter on there and drop it again, then all the impact is straight onto the lens This is one of the reasons I always keep filters on my lenses, I can be just as clumsy as the next guy

I tend to echo Toad's sentiments on this one. Having suffered with back pain in the past (herniated disc at S5L1, now repaired), I know the agony and the need to feel like you have massive support in the lumbar area, but it's not always the ideal solution. With the adaptive sports seats in the 911, I have 14 ways of moving the seat including lumbar support from the base right up to the shoulders, and I used to whack the support full max at the base as that's always what I was told was the right thing. It never really helped, so once I got fed up with the pain I started playing around with the seats to see what else could work. In the end, I settled on a far more upright position than I would normally use, and whilst it felt incredibly odd at first, and made me look like one of those dozy old women in their 90s you see driving bolt upright, it helped massively as I'd improved my posture rather than just supported the problem area. The Zed seats aren't the greatest in terms of support anyway, so my recommendations would be to try and give yourself a better posture by moving the chair, and definitely purchase yourself a CG Lock if you don't have one already. Both of these together should give you the pain relief you require when driving.

If it tries to say anything (unless it actually does IYSWIM), then it'll look utterly sh*te. If it's just your initials, then that's fine.

I believe the genuine Nismo stuff has a Nismo badge on it, however it's on the side you can't see so you'd never know without removing it... Get it in writing, then if it turns out to be a copy you can sue the seller for misrep. Works for business or private sale.

If you had £35,000 to spend on a car, what would you choose?
Ekona replied to a topic in Other Cars
If I was after a waft wagon, it would be a Merc over either. If I wanted something sporty, I'd pick the Beemer. If I wanted something that looked the best inside and out, I'd get the Audi. -
Zed will do 24mpg combined, so that makes the final bill £250. Zed wins. Also, 1000 miles is nothing, might as well use it if you've got it!
