Oh trust me, I know exactly how stringent Porsche can be with their warranty stuff, there's not a single non-OEM thing on mine apart from the PH smiley on the back window, It's why I had to cough up over £2K for the exhaust rather than a quarter of that, although I have to admit it is a decent bit of kit. I'm giving serious thought to not renewing the warranty this year though so I can fit various other odds and sods (mostly suspension bits, ironically OEM off a GT3), but I'm still not sure on that yet.

I've pretty much had all four seasons in the one week I've also discovered Mahou beer, which is pretty damn tasty. It's a lager but quite a smooth and creamy one, almost like a Caffreys or similar.

Did the great big sticker saying '98RON ONLY' by the fuel cap not give you a hint?! Regardless, I wouldn't fret over anything now, just stick with 98 from now on and whatever will be, will be. Nothing you can do about it either way, so no point in worrying

If you remove it you make the rear lighter, which is going to increase oversteer. Whether that's a bad thing or not depends on what you're trying to achieve. I used to remove mine on trackdays, but as the car was 80% road based I had the geo done with it in. Suspension settings won't really be altered by anything worth worrying about either with it in or out, so just go with whatever's easier.

Day 9 Upon waking this fine morning, I peered out of the bedroom window to gaze upon the mountain tops opposite, but alas could not see them. This was because they were covered in fog! Despite yesterday, I was still going to carry on with my route but this new development meant that any kind of fun driving on roads where you can't see more than 2ft in front of you just isn't a good idea. As such, I carried on with the coastal road instead. T'was a nice drive, although even at just 100m above sea level the fog was definitely noticeable so I'm very glad I didn't bother trying to venture any further up. I did find one bit of road which was quite high and open, nothing like yesterday but it still made me feel a bit odd, but I pushed through and was determined to drive it as hard as I normally would. I did too, so I felt like that was a little bit of success for the day Found a nice little beach as well where I stopped off to take some pictures, althbough I didn't hang around for too long: The beach was invaded by a group of school kids, guessing 12-13 years old, and a single bloke hanging around such an area with a flipping great camera taking photos was probably not such a good idea, so I left rather sharpish! Before I headed for the hotel, I had a plan... Slightly longer video than usual due to decent upload speeds for a change. Best laid plans and all that! Am at my final Spanish hotel now, and will pop down for some grub in a bit. I'm going to miss Spain as I've really enjoyed my time here, and heading back into France is really going to make the holiday feel like it's almost over.

Is it definitely in gear? 100%? If so, you need a new gearbox ASAP. As in yesterday.

If it doesn't lock up then your gearbox is shot to absolute pieces. I'm betting it's fine and you've just not let it move far enough to lock up.

Sssssshhhhhhhh the car will hear you and blow up again I've got another spare fuse if it blows again though, I bought a spare pack from a petrol station out here not realising that Porsche actually give you spares anyway They do say in the manual only to 'use official Porsche fuses that are designed for your vehicle' though: Utter load of b*llocks, it's a bloody fuse FFS!

Car is fixed! Can't find the other 12v supply, but working on the basis that I have two I changed another fuse which was definitely blown and the cigarette lighter is functioning again! Great success

How does it work though? Are there significantly less mongs on the road now? Nope. They don't care about points or bans or whatever, they just carry on without a licence if necessary. They would care significantly more if they couldn't afford to own a car though, even a £1K shed would be out of reach if you'd just been fined that for driving like a knob. The current system isn't fair to rich and poor alike anyway, as the rich guys just buy expensive lawyers who get them off.

Genuinely I've never, ever had an issue with mountain driving before, or any kind of driving at height. I've blasted round the IoM course plenty of times on multiple trips with no issues, and have done other stuff like Wales and Scotland with zero problems. I've only ever felt od about heights maybe 10 times in my entire life, and they were so brief that it was never a problem worth even considering. Getting very close to beer o'clock now, bloody restaurants don't open until 8-8:30 everywhere in Spain and I'm starving!

Right, change of plan sorted I've checked the route for tomorrow and I think it should still be okay, only one hairy looking bit but the rest seems good so I may just keep that as-is. If not, then I've already seen a couple of beaches nearby I can head to. I've cancelled my hotel in Bordeux and moved it waaaay up to Caen. Sadly I'm a day too late for the anniversary, however this means I can take in the Normandy beaches again. I've been there before and it was incredibly powerful, so going back seems a good idea. It also puts me closer to Calais for the crossing, and avoids the Pyranees, so win/win.

Start again, as I know that I'm a completely different person now I can actually move and live normally. It's been almost exactly a year to the day ago since I had my op, and I actually wrote an email to my surgeon last week thanking him and his team for his efforts, as I can now enjoy my life. The thread explains it all I think, but all I know for sure is that surgery fixed my completely and I would push like crazy to get it done again. Rather that than have to suffer.

Day 8 Oh noes, car failure! Not a great start to the day, that. Launch control I clearly didn't secure the GP mount enough, as you can see the camera dip down when I transition from throttle to brakes I went to Portugal today, seemed a nice enough country from the 30 mins or so I spent there. Very different landscape to Spain, different fauna growing beside the road, different road surface, even the villages looked more rural. I'd like to see more, I think. And then I hit disaster. Proper, full blown, sod all I can do about it disaster. I do have a video of my thoughts on this, and I was going to upload it, but if I'm honest it's a tad too personal and I'm not comfortable sharing my feelings in video format, so text will have to suffice. Sorry 'bout that. Basically, in the past I've had a minor brush with acrophobia. Nothing extreme, mostly when at work and I'm climbing a vertical ladder or multi-level scaffold and I get this odd feeling like my ankles want to lock up. They don't, and I push through and I'm fine. A couple of days back when on the mountain stuff in Spain I had a very similar feeling, but ignored it and carried on. I thought it was just one of those things. It wasn't. I was climbing a mountain today, only 1850 above sea level but it was in a quarry so very steep sides. Bit of snow still on top, even when the valley below is 30 deg c, but the roads were perfectly dry. Suddenly I had a very acute awareness of the height of the mountain and how far the car could fall if I got it wrong, and my ankles suddenly went very tight. Almost to the point where I had to stop driving, kind of tight. It's hard to explain if you've never suffered, but it was a horrible feeling and I descended the mountain slower than any car has ever possibly done so before. I was glad to get held up behind a Citroen Xsara, just to slow the pace and give me something to follow. Normally I reckon you could take the corners happily at 70mph in a normal car: I was struggling to get to 50mph. I have no idea what to do now. I've still got two days of driving left, and the routes were planned for mountain stuff. I'm clearly going to have to take them out now if they're too high (will check this evening), but I don't know how else to fill my time. Car failure I can deal with, nowt I can do about that, but myself failure? I feel a total f*cking failure. Proper. Sorry, not the cheery update you were probably expecting, but it's the truth. I'm determined to enjoy the rest of my trip though, just means I'll need to stay nearer the beach with bikini wearing ladeez than watching snow on a mountain!
