what speed do you think the law should allow?
Ekona replied to ddcboyle's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Remove all speed limits. They're ridiculous and blanket that cause people to either break the law, or drive too fast whilst staying legal, or simply play too safe and hold everybody up. 30mph past a school at 3pm is too fast, no arguments there. Even 20mph could well be too fast. However, the same bit of road at 3am could safely be taken at maybe 50mph with no problem. 70mph on a clear motorway is too slow, but in fog that 70mph on the same motorway is lethal. What we need is to keep the current limits, but make them recommendations. If you stay under that, then great, no probs, usual rules apply. If you choose to exceed them and there is an incident, then you should be guilty until presumed innocent. If you are genuinely still driving safely at speed, and the incident is the fault of someone else, then stand up in court and be prepared to defend yourself and justify it. If you can't, then the speed wasn't safe. Alternatively just bin all speed limits and using a version of the above idea, just prosecute for dangerous driving if the speed was not safe/appropriate. -
Yay, I'm off to Spain! Anyone learnt Spanish as an adult?

Hola guapa, and uno pepito por favor. Got me through everything when I lived in GC. -
I have a few thoughts on this. First off, doing that speed in those conditions in that car on that road is not inherently dangerous. If it was, then the autobahn would've self-destructed by now. What is dangerous is that your average road user is simply not expecting anyone to be doing that kind of speed, and thus is ill-prepared to either judge closing distances or otherwise predict the speed of the vehicle. At that speed you give yourself no chance to move if someone pulls out. Hell, it's bad enough at 70mph at times. This is why doing the ton on our roads isn't a very good idea, ignoring the legality of it or not. Being banned for three years and taking an extended retest is pretty harsh, but only if the person banned isn't going to carry on driving any way. His attitude was awful, but if the judge wasn't prepared to come on down on him like a ton of bricks then I struggle to get angry about it. He'd only have appealed anyway, which probably would've been allowed. That said, I'm far more upset about this sentence than I am the original 18 months given to Stuart Hall, so perhaps if enough people complain about it then it will be doubled? Seems to be the way to get things done, mob rule and all that.

London councils head list of parking charge surpluses
Ekona replied to Adrian@TORQEN's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Still doesn't break down the penalty charges, unless I'm missing the obvious. -
You're kidding, that's the performance bargain of the decade so far! With those looks, and that much grunt along with that noise, it's just a shame they don't make them in RHD.

What I'd like to know is how much of that is penalty charges. -
That's the Hennessey 'Vette Stingray, doesn't look that much different from a standard C7CS really. And yes, they have pinched the ugly arse from the GTR, as well as the front from an FF.

553bhp & 465 lb/ft 370Z Full Amuse with Greddy Twin Turbo
Ekona replied to Adrian@TORQEN's topic in Member Build Projects
I don't like the extra welding on that exhaust at all. It looks a bit pony, never mind it's just another billion points for the exhaust to fail. There's no reason to do that over just bending the pipework, unless their goal was to make extra work for themselves and hike the price up because it looks a bit different. -
Thanks for clearing that up! I did wonder what they were. And not sure about Claying yet! Maybe when I get bored of waxing! Claying is the most satisfying bit of cleaning for me, when you lightly glide your fingers over the paint and feel the difference between clayed and non-clayed bits, it's a revelation the first time.

The fastest car in the world is a hire car. Now proven.

BaT use it for their Iberia trip, not a cheap circuit but far from members only. Whether the circuit themselves have a day available you could get onto is another story.

Perhaps, but see this Sticky here for my opinions on the subject What I will say is that the only keeping you in contact with the road are four very small pieces of rubber. With that in mind, is that where you want to be saving money?
-
You will, easily. The VUS aren't that tough really, which is why they provide outstanding feel. The MPSS give nigh-on equal feel, but last a shed load longer. Really, unless you are stone broke and cannot afford the extra £200 to even chuck on a credit card for a couple of months, there is no reason not to fit the MPSS these days. They are the best tyre available in all departments, full stop.

Connect iPhone to computer, drag photos off, upload to the internet either via your own webspace or somewhere like Photobucket. Alternatively, download the Photobucket app and upload directly from there.

Judgemental? Perhaps, but there's a clear cut case between right and wrong when it comes to jumping a red light. It boils down simply to not paying attention to the roads, and while I can understand people perhaps drifting in concentration doing 70mph along a 40 mile stretch of motorway, I don't believe there's any room for lack of concentration on urban roads where you have traffic lights. It boils down to good driving and bad driving, and by not paying attention to something as glaringly obvious as red lights, what else have you missed? I do make a solid call between missing a red light and jumping one on purpose: The first insinuates a lazy driver who is lacking awareness and possibly dangerous in some situations, and the latter is a complete ***** who is a definite danger. Seems fair enough to me.

He's on about the 453s, not the 452s.

I'd rather have aids Good AIDS or Bad AIDS? And it's a 911 they should've bought
-
Not the Toyos. I like the VUS, but have yet to try the 453. My hatred for the infernal bands of slop that were the 452 is legendary, however I've heard good things about the 453 from people that know their tyres so they could be worth a punt. VUS have incredible feedback though, and I mean from the tyres themselves when you're using them: They really communicate what the car is doing superbly. But yeah, the extra cost of the MPSS will give you a tyre that is not only the definitive performer right now, but long term you'll save a fortune as it will last much longer than any of the other three.

Not enough random banning for daring to hae an opinion to be an OcUK forum
-
Very common, see one of the traders on here for a quality replacement solution. Don't forget to tell your insurer though if not fitting a standard exhaust

Brake is the DM's favourite anti-speeding group. I don't speed any more, lesson learnt. I did it once that entire trip, never sped in the UK and never sped in Europe since. I agree, it's stupid and pointless and should be saved for the track, which is what I do. I didn't realise you don't speed either, well done on being one of the sensible few. Are you now saying you go through amber, and not red? 'Cos that's not what you were saying earlier, was it?

I have no feelings either way. I'm sure you're actually a decent person in the flesh, and that it's just your posts on here that come across somewhat odd. Tbh I'm the same at times. Whilst me mocking your parking is one thing, and really is only meant in jest as you're not actually hurting anyone, jumpind red lights is about as dangerous as it gets.
