In itself, I have no problem with a diesel car. My truck is diesel, we nearly bought a 118d last year, they're fine for what they do. With all due respect to Dave and his Jag, which is a very fine machine and is certainly no slouch, for me personally I would never want one as my fun car. They can be enjoyable in their own way, but they can never touch a good petrol engined car in terms of enjoyment. All IMHO, YMMV, etc.

Sounds like a diesel, and doesn't rev. Noise and revs are pretty much top of the list when it comes to fun cars, so whilst these diesels are quick I would argue that they're not exactly exciting. Rather have a slower but more fulfilling car than a quick diesel. And no way will you get 50mpg out of a 330d.

Agreed, anything below 120c is okay, I wouldn't want it going much above that and would immediately start cooldown procedures if it started creeping towards that figure.

Can't comment on the drive, but they're not exactly pretty.

You'll leave me for dead on the back straight without breaking sweat, but I would be disappointed if I wasn't quicker than you through the corners and definitely under braking. I know it'd never happen, and I know it probably wouldn't actually be that good to drive, but I think it would be an occasion and for me, that's good enough.

I just wish they'd do a new Clio V6. I like the style of the new one, and with the 3.7L V6 from the 370Z in there mounted midships that would be superb. Completely impractical, but superb.

They've stated now that those figures are only lab test ones, and that they shouldn't be taken at face value but instead used to compare between cars. For example, you have a 320d that states 60mpg and an S1 that states 50mpg, neither will get anywhere near that but there will be 10mpg between them. So in the real world the 320d gets 40mpg, the S1 gets 30mpg.

It's a bigger car than you think, that's for sure. It's also bloody expensive, I think.

FWD 0-60 is limited by grip, so there will never be great improvements in that. In gear shove in the S1 will be hysterical though, and all wrapped up in a nice interior. Great little fun hatch, if not quite enough balls to the wall for my taste.

Truth is, the issues concerned may not matter a jot to you, but they sure as hell should matter to the person taking it as a part ex. As it stands, it's neither a well-finished modified Cat D, nor a straight car but with some minor things needing doing. The part ex value should reflect that.

Changed the front two calipers this evening to try and solve my brake feel issue. It's a 20 min job, until you finish packing up and wonder why you've got a spare washer for the brake line floating in the tray you've been catching fluid in... Wheel off again! Not had a chance to test it yet, but am going to be changing the rears at the weekend too. No harm in that, it's a 90k miles car after all and probably due a refresh.
