Erm, eff you buddy, I used to do some serious overclocks back in the day, but then I realised it was a law of very much diminishing returns and I'd rather play games than run stress tests. Fine, oh mighty wise one who is clearly the god of all things, enlighten us. Tell us how you're going to revolutionise the PC gaming industry outside of putting a bigger fan/water cooling/pelting cooling on a chip, all of which costs money that could go to a better card in the first place.

  3. Why would you buy a cheap keyboard? It's the one thing you interact with every single time, a cheap and uncomfortable one is going to ruin the experience. It's like getting a cheap crappy seat for your car: If the rest is amazing, matters not if you're uncomfortable. And I was kidding about the 5400. Can you even buy drives that slow any more?! You're right about the PSU though, I forgot that bit. I like the Corsair modular ones, means you don't have a ton of spare cables floating around. Stock cooling is fine. Nothing in my setup is any different than how it came from factory, and I've no desire to faff around with overclocking for an extra 2fps. Just get a better gfx card in the first place
  4. If it's a gaming PC, just set your budget then get the fastest gfx card you can, at least 16GB of RAM, and the fastest CPU you can. Everything else is secondary. Get an ugly case, get a 5400rpm hard disk, just don't compromise on the core stuff. Oh, and get the best controller you can, be that m&k or proper joypad, as that's what you'll be interacting with. There you go, done. No credentials, but it's the right approach

  6. I used to enjoy the build too, then I realised it was just faff and risk that I didn't really need to add to the experience. Nope, much rather pay some Filipino kid $2 a week to build it for me

  8. Self build or pre built? I can highly recommend PC Specialist if not self building, they really are superb and excellent customer service.

    Plus you need so much more power to go that fast, Chiron has 1500bhp and is limited to 260mph as they can't make road tyres last at those kind of speeds

    Top speed is useless these days, it's all about how you use the power you've got to go fast round a track. If you gear the car for top speed it blunts acceleration.

  12. Go and put your hand near the exhaust, then see if you still think it's cool enough.
  13. Not reall, no. Would you put your hand on the backbox after a drive? I wouldn't, it's bloody hot. Try it at the exhaust tip, the coldest place, and it'll still be too warm to touch.
  14. Spoiler spoils airflow to reduce lift, wing adds downforce (in theory).
  15. NA exhaust temps at the manifold are about 700c, drop a little for having passed through the cats and you're there. Go warm the car up, leave the exhaust running for 10 mins then put your hand close but not touching the y-pipe. Trust me, that's proper hot and you really don't want to be touching it properly.
  16. If you like the F-Type, exhaust on or off, then tbh you can skip this test and just get a new exhaust. Those things are LOUD

  20. I made up the time span, but tbh you'd know within 10 mins much less 30 mins. What could be damaged? Get under and have a look, see what's nearby to where the leak is going to be, easiest way. Temps will be about 500c, could double that if it was FI. Boot isn't very well sealed so fumes very likely to get it, how much is debates me but there will be some, I tend not to muck around with CO at all given how lethal it can be. Again, first sporty car?
  21. I think the odds of ever finding a used BBK from an E63 coming up for grabs is quite small, but I don't disagree with the theory. Reyland looks a good option, although Adrian is looking at whether one of his kits could be made to fit for me which is looking very promising right now too
  22. Have you considered what may happen in these two scenarios? 1. You like it louder, so you go and research and find another exhaust that gives you the exact same volume increase (assuming you can measure it accurately on the move). You fit the exhaust, then discover it drones or the tone is awful. Money wasted. 2. You do your mod and hate it, far too loud so you stick with OEM. You then miss out on having a nice sounding car because the test gave you a completely wrong perception of what a good exhaust can sound like. The odds of you doing the test, then researching the volume, then buying an exhaust that just so happens to sound exactly like it is an absolutely minute chance of happening. You'd have more chance of winning the lottery. Have you ever owned a sporty car before? Ever had a performance exhaust put on it? Genuine question.
