  1. Thanks for that Beavis - I thought it seemed well low but now it seems it's just normal after all.
  2. Just out of interest - what revs is it supposed to idle at? Most cars I've had are just over 1000rpm but coincidentally on Friday I noticed mine was nearly as low as 500 although it didn't seem like it would cut out.
  3. I guess I've been doing the opposite - going twice a slow as I usually would round a corner because of all the scare mongering that goes on about losing the back end. I'll put my foot down on the country roads on the way home tonight if it stays dry!
  4. seriously? I've heard all sorts of horrors about, shall we say number 2's, actually coming out of the top of the loos! nightmare!
  5. Can anyone tell me how to rename a link? for example when copying a really long link to another website area and you want to change it to just say 'click here' I can do it on other forums I use but can't see how on here. Ta CLICKY
  6. This is a new landrover ad that they showed on yesterday's soccer am - it is so funny and not a landrover in sight! http://www.landrover.com/Microsites/eng ... hicPromo_2
  7. sorry, yes the jag wasn't rear wheel drive you're quite right - just felt like it was on ice at times! Thanks for the advice as well.
  8. Camping, mud, portaloo's and worse of all - where do you plug your hair straighteners in? No Way! The only way you'd get me near one of those places is if Elvis was performing!
  9. Can anyone with an import confirm this? I've just looked at the PDF handbook which applies to US cars I think and the clock is not listed. And I'm never late! Well nearly never.......
  10. Thanks for all your replies - even the ones that say take traction control off and give it some welly (no thanks)! I think Zzzzz's advice is probably what I'll do - the old roundabout trick. I'm too shy to do track driving and what I really need is more confidence on country roads. Don't get me wrong I'm not at all nervous of the car, I love it, just want to get the best out of it without ending up in a ditch. I've had 2 rear wheel drive cars before - a BMW 3 series compact and a jag X type automatic - neither of which compare except maybe on ice!
  11. I can't possibly go somewhere where people could watch me - I won't even go karting even though I'd love it because I don't want people to watch me! And if I drive it like I stole it won't I crash?
  12. Can anyone give me some driving tips? Having had the car since June I'm fairly used to it now and how it handles. However, I used to chuck my Type R into corners and drive it a lot more confidently. The Z feels very weighty in comparison and I feel that I should be able to fly around corners in it with a lot more confidence. At the moment I am slowing right down into a corner, going round the corner fairly slow and then speeding up on the straight but this is slowing me down considerably. I haven't felt the back end so much as twitch yet and the potenzas seem to be fairly grippy contrary to reports on here. So any tips on how to get more out of the car and gain the confidence to be a bit more daring would be welcome.
  13. ha ha ha, very funny - actually that did make me laugh. I have a clock on the head unit but its one of those annoying things you want to work out.
  14. Right, i've been and looked again and this is what I have when I scroll through them all (by the way, holding the button down does nothing) 1. Temp 2. KM DTE 3. KM per Litre and Av KM per hour 4. Mins and Secs elapsed and KM elapsed 5. H: M: S: (hours mins secs) and lap timer 6. RPM 7. KM/per hour defo no clock with the actual time on it. I have taken photos on my mobile if anyone wants to check.
  15. right, I am going outside to try it now - I am convinced there is no clock - this is not to do with mine being an import is it? When Tim's feeling up to it he will put me straight as usual!
  16. I would have loved a mini back when I was a youngster. They were cheap as anything then. If you were skint you got an old mini - now you hardly ever see a proper mini - where have they all gone? My dad used to do them up from crashed - he had a 1275GT which was great at the time.
  17. yeah, I know it does that but i have not seen a clock. there is MPH, DTE, Ave fuel consumption, ave MPH, time taken so far on trip, and a lap timer. I guess I'm doing one of them wrong!
  18. No permanent clock display Am I missing something here because mine defaults to the clock permanently on the righthand circular instrument on top of the dash. It should return to whatever you left it on last. Yep, and rather than having clock on all time. I have the digital speedo on that clock, then just hold the button down to "jump" to clock. Then click once to jump back to where you had it set....... best of both worlds to me, as use the speedo more than the clock! Snap Jcko. Tat's exactly what I do. Or I wear a watch..... Clock? What clock? On the digital gauge I don't see a clock on mine? Its the r/h one of the three 'eyes' staring at you from the cente of the car - keep pressing the button with the two interlocking square symbols on the speedo cluster until the clock display turns up (amongst other options) and then use the button with the minus symbol to help adjust the time as its probably still showing the time in Toyko or wherever ! I've already looked at that but i can't find a clock - there's like a stop watch thing that whizzes round though - like a lap timer.
  19. Yeah dead right I appreciated it, I didn't care what it was it was mine and that I finally had the freedom, it could honestly have been anything. And as proof of that last statement, in actual fact I swapped the knackered Metro for the "Flying Turd" - a B plate Mk1 Astra 1.3 in a stunning shade of brown. Yep, completely poo brown. Great 2nd gear on it though, I think thats what sold it to me. 18 years old and not a clue. You remind me actually Nixy, your lad has a Mk2 Astra doesn't he? He wouldn't be interested in some shocks & springs would he?????? It's a MK4 Astra and it's totally chaved up and ruined. It was a great little car when he got it. He doesn't care for it at all now - it's all about the precious R6 these days!
  20. Did everyone really appreciate their 'crappy' car when they got it? Things are so different now. When I was 17 I would have been overjoyed to have access to any old car but when my own son was 17 and started having driving lessons he would only be satisfied with a certain standard of car with upgraded alloys etc etc. Granted he paid for it himself but if I'd have offered to get him a runaround for a few hundred he would have said no thanks and wouldn't have been seen dead in it!
  21. Welcome! I finally caved in and let my 19 year old have a quick drive down a back country road with me in the passenger seat. He's a good driver but it was a bit hairy as we leapt forward in first gear!
  22. C Reg fiat Uno - I thought I was so lucky to have a car. My biggest thrill at the time was being able to drive to the big supermarket to do my shopping instead of dragging carrier bags back to my flat. However, it put me off italian cars for life! I was also a lot thinner before I started driving!
  23. Are we talking about the trio of clocks on the dash? What button? Am I going to have to go to the flaming car park now and look or can i bear to wait for 4.30.........
