  1. Looks interesting, but I think for the money you could build something more powerful yourself. VIA chips/ boards were reknowned for being a bit underpowered for the MHz rating when compared to Intel a few years ago, with a 800MHz EDEN being no where near powerful enough. Plus if you build it yourself the screen would fit in the cubby area which is much better to see when driving
  2. What s/w are you using? Autostitch - http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~mbrown/autostitch/autostitch.html normally makes a good job of it. Otherwise, there used to be one built into Photoshop which you could manually intervene with. If you have all the full size pics up somewhere (web site or FTP),I could give it a go at some point for ya
  3. LOL - bored coders stike again. We just found a bit of legacy code error handling here at work that when it hit an exception it was telling us to "sod off" Not the best to be finding when on client site haha
  4. Nope called up and said that its not their fault the car is so low and modified. they are use to picking up cars of standard lowerage. So I will have to take to my local to fibre glass mend and spray blend over. Should only be a hundred I hope. That doesnt stand to reason. Fair enough they cant do lowered cars, but the point is they tried and failed. If it was the case, they should have said it was too low and not even tried. Thats neglagence on the RAC pick up drivers behalf. But as you say more hassle than its worth trying to chase it up Hope you get it sorted soon and get the piccies done
  5. Thats because they cant ride properly. They need to hug the racing line as they cant take the corner at the right speed so they go in too hot, @*!# it, turn harder and have to hope nothing is coming. Happens far too often for my liking, even straying full on to the other side of the road!
  6. Looking good mate, shame about the circumstances. Hopefully it wont be too long before you are able to have one again.
  7. Yeah I am getting the same from my mates. I dont see any reason not to let my missus drive it. They're not that extreme. My bike, now thats another matter, that really needs care to ride properly.
  8. I certainly wouldnt brag about spinning my car, but hey, whatever floats your boat! I'd got with hes having you on as he doesnt think a woman should be driving such a car! You should get him on the track and whoop his arse
  9. I beleive these are actually the biggest cause of accidents. A friends data is an Advanced Motorcyclist (something like that) and he said the stats are scary. Most think that accidents on bikes are young lads, whereas its actually 40 somethings who used to ride, gave up and now ride again that crash the most. Mainly as you say, they can handle 100MPH bikes, and quite rightly so, but not the new breed of 180MPH+ bikes, even though they *think* they can.
  10. I got nailed doing 87mph on an empty motorway last jan (hence the natty picture on the left here; got to use the photo for something!) I'd suggest being very careful at or over 85 Ouch mate, sorry to hear that. I have a friend who got nailed for doing 56MPH in a 50 zone. It is down to the copper in question, as you say you have to be careful, as they can actually do you for doing 71MPH in a 70 if they are having a bad day
  11. Pingu: What ODB-II cable are you using? I'm going to be looking for one once I get everything else up and running so having one on the list I know works is a good start! I also use XPort, but not looked into GOOPS yet. Also looked into using RR, but as I can only get MapMonkey for GPS and thats uses D3 rather than Centrafuse and D6, I went for Centrafuse. Can wait for the updates to Centrafuse to use D6.2, should be good. Should bring Camera alterts too hopefully. For hardware I am using a Dell D600, which is a Centrino 1.4GHz and that is more than fast enough.
  12. Cool, that should simplify things a bit. Wish it was that easy in my Leon, would have done it a couple of years ago!
  13. Pingu: Thanks for the very informative reply. Would you say that I could remove the back piece of my (well soon to be) 2003 cubby and simply fit the screen without leaving any permenent damage? It sure looks like it from that link. That would def be the best solution as it costs me nowt!
  14. A few years back my friends dad was an advanced police driving instructor. Back then the guidlines given to traffic police was speed limit +10% + 3MPH. So for motorways you got 80MPH before they'd ticket ya. He also said that you could easliy do 85MPH without being done as long as you arent all over the place or tailgating. Not that I condone speeding of course
  15. Thanks for the replies guys. I dont know why but I thought I needed a sat nav surround rather than the std cubby. I was under the impression that the 2003 sat nav surround had a cutout for a 7" sceen already and the flip down lid. Is that wrong? I will give the std cubby a go when my Zed arrives (next Sat hopefully, going to view Tues). I was tempted by the 04 cubby as there was one on ebay. So far I have my laptop all setup with Centrafuse, GPS, Lilliput screen. Just waiting on a carnetix powersupply and I think I will be good to go when my car gets here. If I was to do it again, I think I would go down the mac mini route. Mainly because of the small form factor, and the fact that carnetix do a kit to wire it up and its all plug and play. My Dell D600 is more work which will require soldering etc which isnt as neat. Zedrush: Do you have any pics of the install? IIRC the pics in the other thread are of Pingu's install. Also IIRC you had a friend fabricate the LCD into the cubby didnt you?
  16. For Windoze (I recommend XP as its faster and less demanding than Vista) try Centrafuse @ http://www.fluxmedia.net/. PM me and I'll let you know how to get it gratis if you are a developer I have just got my lilliput 7" screen yesterday, all up and running. Need a car (lol yeah no Zed yet) and the power supply (ETA Mon/Tues) to finish it off. Then obviously it needs installing into my Zed when I get it, which should hopefully be next Saturday (pickup, not install).
  17. All speedo's I've ever measured read about 5MPH more @ 60-70MPH over a GPS. I beleive this is manufacturers covering their behinds so that when we sit at 70MPH on the motorway or whatever we dont get done for speeding. They need to build in a little contigency as I dont beleive their are completely accurate. I beleive I once read the digi readout is taken from somewhere different to the analogue dial and this explains the difference there. But that is compete hersay
  18. Sounds awesome. Might try and do something simlar as a cheapish holiday perhaps. If you dont mind me asking, how much was it roughly all in?
  19. Very nice mate, not dissimlar to the one I am after
  20. Ah bugger, I miss read the ebay post, I thought this was a Sat Nav cubby Soooo.... if the 03-04 normal cubby are the same, can you retro fit a 7" screen or is it easier just to source a proper Sat Nav surround?
  21. Lol, almost as quick as my £50/month Watch out though, if you ever get a bonus, those sods will have their way with it and not leave much for you
