and what is the benefit of this? not taking the pi$$; i just don't understand what he is trying to attempt

i often run tyres down to the legal limit....but by about 3 mm; come wet conditions any tyre is never as good as when it has more tread. but not a massive difference when its dry. if looking for maximum grip in all conditions i would change tyres at 3mm and not 1.6mm. 1.6mm is the legal limit and not a target to aim for after all. as for tyres the RE040's are brilliant tyres in the dry and hard to beat for a track tyre as they are nice and firm and they don't overheat and go greasy very easily; and they offer tons of dry grip. yes in the wet they can be hard to get heat into them but i still found them (on the last 3 cars they came with) very progressive when they let go. i ran vredesteins on my Zed and they are very good; wet and dry grip are excellent; but i'f i'm honest i did find they lost a little communication on the limit; i'm sure i could have pushed harder on them but wasn't always sure where the limit was. and i'm starting to realise that this is more down to profile than the tyre itself. i currently run the falkens on my S2000 and have been really impressed with them; i think this has a lot to do that they wheels i run mean i have them in a 35 and 30 profile which really stiffens up the side of the tyre. and the fact that the car is a good 200kg lighter than the Zed. i've run the 452's in wet weather, dry weather and 4"'s of snow and they'vee been great, and i mean really great. in the snow they would slide but they were so progressive and communicative the cart just went where you wanted it to even taking into account the oversteer on exit. only got stuck once in a car park in the 3 weeks of snow i was driving daily in them (they are of course no replacement when it comes to snow or winter tyres) in the wet they have been brilliant, tons of grip and feedback, not had any issues; and must admit i'm alot more confident in them compared to the vredesteins (think it would be different if i'd had bigger after market wheels and a lower profile with the vredesteins). i'm due to track the S2000 soon and will be able to feedback on the 452's at the end of the day i think you have to find the tyre, and profile/wheel size that best suits your driving, a tyre that suits one person might be horrible for someone else. this theory excludes things like nankangs which would just be horrific regardless. on a side note; i ran the eagle F1 GSD3's in the larger profile on my old S2000 wheels and they were brilliant. really suited the car and worked effortlessly. feedback, feel and communication all brilliant. down side is that they stopped making them ages ago and you'll be hard pushed to find them in zed sizes anymore.

the engine has something lke 40% different parts to it; but doubt that would account for 75 kg, my guess is after 2006 new legislation came in so there may be more in safety measures added like alterations to the chassis etc

the forum is good, its one of the reasons i and many others have stuck around long after we sold up. as for the dipstick my memory is fuzzy as its been a while since ive seen a zed one, i think it had several kinks/bends in it, but it shouldn't be twisted. pics would help to point you in the right direction. if you need a replacement :pmr35lee: he breaks lots of old zeds and should have plenty of them in good condition and at a fraction of the dealership cost.

040's are stock fitting 050's would have been a user upgrade. should you be worried? dpends on how you drive if you drive hard everywhere, i'd want the best setup all round. general rule of thumb is to have the same all round, and never mix across the axle. mixing front to back is not too bad and they are good tyres, not nasty nankangs, but i would be looking at either swapping the 040's over to 050s at some point, or swapping them all out for a preffered brand of your choice all round. as we're heading into the better weather this isnt too bad and in dry weather i wouldnt be worried. but in wet weather i'd be taking it steady to be on the safe side.

CarPuter Install - FOR SALE - £250 ono
rtbiscuit replied to neo-ninja's topic in I.C.E & Electronics
agreed, not cheap, but for some jobs i think worth the expense. i'm looking into laptops at the moment and the SSD is top of my list for upgrades. -
the 350z dipstick is pants best bet is to do it on a cold engine as it will give you the most accurate reading of the actual level and hopefully mean that there is no excess up the dipstick tube. without trying to teach granny how to suck eggs, i always read, wipe it and read again, possibly doing this 2 or 3 times to make sure i get a proper reading. no worries about the help, its what we are here for

CarPuter Install - FOR SALE - £250 ono

that will speed things up and allow for a more stable memory as it has no moving parts and will be a lot better suited to something that is going into a moving car. -
next service is due at 50,600 or in 8 months time which ever comes first and yes the millers would cope with a track session fine.

i haven't a clue on the numbers or the difference between the millers range. when it comes to oils i tend to go with what i know, and what is reccomended to me either from the forums or the mechanics i trust. the main garage i use build race cars and touring cars, they rave about royal purple oils and they also use the millers range. to be honest if your not racing the car or taking it on track days then any good synthetic oil will do the job, just don't put cheap mineral oil in, it will do the job but it will be affected by heat far quicker and be less effective far quicker. you could use mineral oil, but i'd be changing it every 2000 miles and not 9k like the service interval says.

agree with the y pipe and HFC/decats but i wouldn't bother with the headers; yes they will unlock more power but the cost required to fit them let alone the actual price of buying them compared to the gains you'll actually see arent brilliant. if you have money to burn then do it, headers are great, but on the zed you're looking at about 12 hour install time; and if the average labour rate is about 30.00 an hour. your looking at about 360.00 minimum before you even buy the headers.
-
millers make good oils and lubes, i used their brake fluid on the zed, that stuff will do the job fine, people have preferences, mine is royal purple. others like fuchs titan pro s, amsoil and what ever else was mentioned in the first part of the thread.

-
must admit i preferred its internal styling to the M3 and i also think externally it was better, just disappointed it did have the edge on the M3
-
if you can get the same stuff then use it again for top ups. if not then just use any good 5w30 or 5w40 oil

Making the switch.. could someone clarify for me?
rtbiscuit replied to waltzinblack's topic in Tyres
as long as you get the same sizes and use the same pressures you'll have no issues. re050's are good. dont use kwik fit -
good shots? did you use a tripod and what settings did you use?
