  1. Dragging up this old thread from the depths (sorry folks). I've just had to change the alternator belt after fitting one around a year ago, due to horrendous amounts of slack, noise, squeaking etc. I hadn't realised my Z had a pulley delete. Question is now... What belt do I fit? A brand new standard belt causes the tensioner pulley to max out.
  2. Can a kind mod please move this thread into the ICE & elec section for 350z? I doubt it will make any difference but I've only just realised this is in the wrong group.
  3. So I recently sorted myself out an upgraded head unit, which i'm pretty happy with (Kenwood DDX4017BT). I'm having a bit of bother sorting out the audio settings within the unit. There is the option to set up the crossover frequencies for each speaker set, so front+tweeter, rear and sub. Does anyone know what they should be? I've found plenty of info online regarding the theory of crossover frequencies, but I'm none the wiser. It does sound 'acceptable', but it's not quite there. So if anyone knows what the the frequency response is for the Bose speakers it would be appreciated. I'm going to pop the sub-woofer out this afternoon in the hopes it's written on the back. Edit: yeah there's bugger all on the back, suppose it was worth a look!
  4. Yeah that's exactly what I did, I've taken an image of the edge in question, I don't know if you can see it? The tread blocks are definitely sharper on the front edge than the rear, even in comparison to the inside of the tyre.
  5. Thanks for the suggestion. I've just taken a look, the nearside front tyre seems to be wearing more on the outer edge, though not excessively. Is that most likely to be alignment or camber etc?
  6. Thanks chap, will do. Do you have any wheel bearings if it turns out I have in issue?
  7. Evening folks, just after some advice. My 07 zed has done a little over 86k miles. In the last month or so, I've noticed a noise which seems to be coming from the rear of the car. It becomes apparent from about 40mph in 3rd gear, it's a low hum that gets louder as the speed increases. I've been changing all fluids as I go, and at the weekend I changed the oil in the diff. I was hoping this might either quiet, or get rid of the noise entirely, but no luck. The oil that came out was darker, but clean and no shiny bits, so I'm unsure if the noise is coming from the diff. I'm more familiar with wheel bearing noises, and I'm not getting any change in noise when turning. Any ideas? No noticeable noise under 35mph, is it likely to be a bearing or something inside the diff making the noise? Is there a chance I'm completely off base and it's the gearbox?
  8. Well that's welcome news, I should only get a dusting of nuclear fallout, being just outside of Cambridge! Luckily my brother has recently moved into his house in Ayr so I have a north hideout should the worst happen. Any excuse to buy an axe is a good excuse
  9. I used to love watching boxing as a kid with my old man, though my memory is a bit poor. I do remember watching Prince Naseem, definitely remember some Lewis fights and Benn fights, but never really had an all out favourite, I was just happy to watch the boxing! These days its about AJ, I'm super interested to see how he comes up against Klitschko. Can't wait for that fight at the end of April, that should be immense.
  10. Spotted a tidy red Zed on Monday eve on Hills rd by the cinema, couldn't really show my appreciation as I was stuck in the back of a mates car on the way to see Feeder at the Junction! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  11. Yeah but Aaron Kaufman handed in his notice, another program losing a brilliant mechanic
  12. Yeah the shows they were doing in the US were at this point already. Such a shame, I don't think there's much left to watch on Discovery now if you don't have an affinity for Alaska....
  13. I'd completely gone off Wheeler Dealers on the last season, pile of american style sh*t. They wanted to make EC grumpy when he's a perfectly amicable person, and it was more about doing silly tasks at the end of the build rather than the build itself. It was quite something to see Brewer shouting at folks on Facebook and Twitter when the fans pretty much started to universally pan the new format, but they had taken something good and sh*t on it from a great height, which p*sses off those who have watched the show for years. Really interested to see what Mr China gets up to now he's free of the shackles of MB and Velocity.
  14. The best over engineering on YouTube, this lot are bloody brilliant, I've signed up for their patreon to get new vids a whole day early, worth it! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  15. Mac n cheese, I absolutely love the stuff and it's my favourite comfort food. My better half loves cheese and loves pasta but for some unknown reason she doesn't like the two of them together, so I usually capitalise on her absence by having a man sized portion of the stuff. I end up feeling like a beached whale after but it's so worth it. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  16. You don't get to whinge unless you are running SLI 480s Mate, I'll have to find you a photo of my litecoin mining rig, EIGHT Radeon R290Xes (2 rigs, 4 in crossfire on each) all running 24/7 at 88*C for 4 months. After selling the cards I just about broke even! It was a stupid venture lol. That thing was a space heater, and I mean a PROPER space heater. My wife's office (300m2) where I was running it was like a Turkish Sauna every morning (55c), luckily it's our business so nobody complained, lol. They would go in every morning and open all the windows, I never did do a gaming benchmark on one of those rigs, should have, but I was all like 'I'm going to get stupid rich on crypto mining' Doh! Still, now is a good time to have bitcoin mate, I found out about the mining waaay to late to even think of building a rig for mining, bit of a shame really!
  17. I've made a similar poor judgement when driving my old Civic. In the dark, coming up to a stretch of road I know well (A1307 from Bury St Edmunds to Haverhill), nice and wide, as I come round the bend to pass a few slow cars in front, the car at the front appears to start speeding up as he sees my lights in his mirror. Then I spot a car coming the other way (but I was committed by this point and had to carry on) who made no attempt to slow down or move over, and instead slapped his lights on full beam and sat on the horn. I managed to nip in front with a gnats testicle of space between me and the oncoming car, and thanked my lucky stars it didn't turn out any different. I acknowledge I should not have made the manoeuvre, but none of this was helped by the car in front who had decided he didn't want to be overtaken (he'd been sat doing 45/50mph for the last 9 miles, regardless of speed limits through villages, he must have been doing 65/70 when I passed him) or the person in the other lane who thought blinding me would assist the situation. I'm at that age now where I mutter under my breath when someone has been a d*ckhead, but that's about it, there's just no point wasting your energy getting all pissy about it. I do however enjoy watching the dashcam stuff on youtube, just for the likes of people such as Ronnie Pickering
  18. Yeah it's definitely fitted correct, I'll just buy a 1173 and see how it goes then, thankfully they aren't expensive! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  19. A little help required, and apologies as I'm sure this has been covered before, but I've yet to spot the answer I'm after. The alternator belt I have just fitted is too long, the idler pulley adjuster is maxed out and the belt has 20mm odd deflection. Now I've got a 6PK1175 fitted, and the interwebs tells me my trusty local motor factors have given me the wrong belt, but the old one was shot to pieces so needed replacing anyway. I'd like to fit something tighter as this currently lets out a little squeak on start up, which will get really old really fast. So far I've found that everywhere lists the belt as being a 6PK1173, but is 2mm less really going to get rid of my enormous deflection? What's recommended? Thanks!
  20. Yeah I second this. I think rather than ask politely when she would like to meet, you need to be firm to get this sorted, for your own benefit. I've been walked on many a time because I was pussyfooting around with things like this, she would say 'no I can't do that day' and when you'd ask for a suggestion for when to meet you'd get fobbed off with 'I'll let you know later'. I would also agree with Ekona though, a letter in this instance might be better. I had a slightly less amicable break up with my ex. After she disappeared for 2 days, she returned home and decided to tell me it's over, and tried and move her new bloke into our flat on the same day (she was actually a psycho, I do not use the term lightly) I had packed my bags and left within a week. No sooner had I left she was calling me, telling me I need to pay my half of the rent, and to pay the council tax, energy bills etc. I fixed that by calling the landlord, explained she'd taken over tenancy with her new man and they immediately took me off their books. I then took my sim card out of my phone, snapped it in half, and I've not heard from her since. It took me a solid 8 years to erase the financial ruin that woman put me in. Paying her insurance is another tie to her you need to sever. Having things like this holding on will just prolong the ordeal for you more than it already has.
  21. There's: Car Throttle - though I can take or leave some of their vids, they did a great vid on the 350z recently! MightyCarMods - great for all sorts of modded madness BisforBuild - does pretty much everything himself, currently building a Toyota FJ cruiser & a twin turbo Mustang Bad Obsession Motorsport - from a purely awesome engineering stand point, building a rally mini with the running gear from a Celica Donut Media - only recently started following but they covered someone shoe-horning a Ferrari engine into a GT86 MRT Performance - another recent follow, bloke has been talking about a billet subaru engine they build, pretty cool 1320Video - if you like drag racing and road racing (the illegal type)
  22. Blimey mate, that's bloody awful. I would consider seeking legal advice over the money going missing, unless it was hers of course. Anyone who is willing to do that to another human being, seemingly out of nowhere, is better off out of your life than in. Was there no sign of her intentions before? It seems pretty incredible that 2 people could be there one minute and gone the next, how long were you together?
  23. Some of the changes they have made are good, I like the new studio, especially what looks like a Countach tucked in the rafters, what I don't really like is.. a few things. Matt LeBlanc could not be any more wooden. It's almost as if he has no opinion of his own, and feels like every word is scripted. Leaving James McAvoy sat there while they carried on with other segments was bloody painful to watch. It was also a shame there was no natural conversation with him, again that all felt heavily scripted. Love the GT86 they're using as a reasonably affordable fast car, that's a good idea! Also happy they are back using the TG track as well, it seems they did listen to what lots of folk were saying. We all know one of the things that made the original TG work was the fact that the old three would riff and converse, and it felt more like they had a basic script to work with and their personalities filled in the gaps, why they aren't allowing the new 3 to do the same is beyond me. Unless, of course, they have nothing to say, I could certainly believe that about Matt LeBlanc. I doubt we'll ever get the same sort of chemistry, but at least it feels like it's heading in the right direction. I might start recording it and fast forwarding through if they decide to do the same thing to the celebrities every week. I would really like it if they would stop trying to pidgeon-hole each presenter into a character. Chris being a bit of an abrasive meany is pointless as it adds nothing. Him literally barking orders at James McAvoy round the track, what the hell was that about?
  24. Ice scraper, water squeegee (I puff my ecig when driving, you wouldn't believe the deluge of water that finds its way in through the drivers window off the roof) tomtom, owners manual, electric tyre inflator, powerbank/jump pack, sunglasses, wheel nut key, a pen, and a can of Holts tyre weld. Blimey I didn't realise how much stuff is tucked away! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
