  1. We had the whole tensioner assembly off as the bottom 'tongs' the bolt sits in were bent. We checked the travel of the pulley wheel while we were at it and everything seemed smooth. So unless we were missing something then there was just no way we could take enough slack out of the belt for it to work correctly. I'll give it another look the next time it needs some belts, but being done just a few months ago it won't be for a while.
  2. I've seen people recommend fitting the eBay no-brand parts but replacing the stock bushes for poly bushes, which is what you would want to do anyway. I haven't had to yet so I don't have any first hand feedback.
  3. It's obviously not a job done in a couple of hours, so what kind of time scale and work input does this involve? I've got an HR and it has me thinking about it for the future. I want to steer away from paying £800 to get it done elsewhere if I can help it.
  4. The fabled Shed. I may make a pilgrimage some day...if I feel like having a few days away . It's a bit of a jaunt from the West Mids.
  5. I brought this up before, but I must have an undersized pulley wheel on my car. One belt is shorter than it should be; I run out of tensioner adjustment long before it's taut. Anybody come across aftermarket pulley wheels? I might have to locate a Zed being broken locally to look for one.
  6. I started reading this forum before owning my Zed so I've seen how easily (and how far) one can fall into the Zeditis rabbit hole. I haven't done anything substantial to mine yet but I'll be owning her for some years to come, so funds willing I'm hoping to go further in the future.
  7. I'm 3 trophies from getting the Platinum in Bloodborne. I've taken a bit of a break and been playing A Link Between Worlds on my 3DS, but I'll be back to finish up Bloodborne soon. EVENTUALLY I'll get Dark Souls 3 but I've got such a backlog its unreal.
  8. If these are the same as what MTEC are selling on their site then this seems a good price for all around the car considering it comes with a set of pads. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nissan-350z-350-z-MTEC-Dimpled-Grooved-Black-Brake-Discs-Front-Rear-Brembo-Pads-/400753590728?hash=item5d4ec681c8:g:fa4AAOSwGiRTrXl4 Without even shopping around that seems decent.
  9. Might be a bit ambitious of a job for DIY tools. The tools we have that have stood up to 20 years of mechanical grief are all Stanley, Snap-On, Kamasa and the like. You don't want one of the tools to break and you hurt yourself/the car. Also you've got to think about the thing maybe being stuck up in the air longer than expected; it would be best if it could be left under cover and secure if you had to leave it overnight. Just a thought; I tend to be overly cautious/paranoid with these things. P.S. thanks for bringing to light the cheaper arms that available. If/when I do mine in the future I'll probably get some eBay specials myself and put the poly bushes in like KyleR recommended.
  10. After I noticed this I broke out some silver acrylic paint and painted them. A little bit of it has rubbed off on the rubber vent seals but I like how it looks now.
  11. Forgot to add this a little while ago. Fitted the steering controls and facia. I had to cut and file it down so it isn't perfectly even, but it looks way better than the half inch gap it had before. https://imgur.com/kMYSpfT The dash needs some seeing too (mostly because of previous owners). Also managed to bodge fix the plastic clip at the top that somebody had managed to thug and break. It actually sits flush at the top now. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  12. I like the idea and I can see a lot of people have done it, but I'd dislike having to go elsewhere to do work on my car. More than that I think about if something doesn't go to plan and I wind up not being able to take it off the ramp that day. At home I can leave it on axle stands and go to bed without it costing me more money

    HFC questions

That's good to know. I'm not looking to change the cats or exhaust yet (until I need to anyway) but at least now I won't be rushing to the forums in a panic when I do. I'll need to look for a place in the Midlands that can/will remap the Zed.
  14. You tease. Another ten seconds on that vid would have been good. Sounds pretty nice; I'll be giving the K2s a look if I need new pipes.
  15. Thanks Alex. I'll keep it in mind for the future.
  16. Some time back in the summer I replaced the belts on my 350z GT. Bought the Gates belts and got the 4PK948 and 6PK1173. I fitted them and they felt somewhat slack but I thought nothing of it, assuming everything was right. However, come the winter I experience a lot of belt squeal. Investigation showed that there was not nearly enough adjustment on my pulleys to suit the belts. I've subsequently bought and fitted 4PK938 and 6PK1148 that fit snug and leave room for further adjustment. What could be the cause of this? Has somebody fitted odd pulley wheels before I had it? I can't think of any other reason. I can't see anywhere that I could possibly alter the belts to take up the excess slack on the longer belts. Should I be worried about this or just carry on? (I also got the P1078 error code shortly after, although I am assuming this is a coincidence and is something else I am looking into . Hoping it's the cam sensor.)
  17. That was the plan for me, but for some reason the tethering just refuses to work with my phone/network (Virgin don't 'allow' tethering and it consistently just doesn't work). Works fine with my friend's phone and network. I'm considering swapping just so that I can tether my Zed.
  18. Looks perfect; thanks for the pics. Hopefully it fits the facelift models the same way. Where did you buy it from? I'll be needing one and then have to find a plate to blank off the satnav controls.
  19. One of my biggest concerns at the moment is that if I lost my job I wouldn't be able to keep up with my Zeditis and might have to cure it.
  20. There are different sites using the name Sextons and they're in different regions. i.e. Sextons London and Sextons Southampton. All the parts you're after should be available from InCarTec and Car Audio Security. Note, however, that ICT told me that they didn't have the generic steering control adapter in stock and wouldn't for a while. I'll be ordering mine (and a facia) closer to when I'll have the centre console out again.
  21. Logically I get it, but I have a kneejerk reaction to putting a jack under the guts off a car. Fear of breaking something I guess.
  22. It's still weird to me that that nub is the rear jacking up point. It doesn't seem like a natural place to jack up a car.
  23. Excellent news. I'll know who to turn to should it need doing.
  24. I'm dumb and quoted myself. See post above.
  25. Well this is certainly an eye opening topic. I haven't had chance to take a good look at my new Zed but it does seem to rumble during urban driving. Investigation is required. I am, however, curious as to how the arms themselves 'fail'. If they're corroded or warped then sure. Or is it simply the bush and ball joint that go? Because surely the ball joint can be replaced (I've seen some for sale, but talk of replacing the whole arm makes me suspicious). But if the arms on my Z original then it's all coming up to being 8 years old so it's probably worth my time to put £500 aside (or less if I put my faith in eBay) and get the arms replaced rather than just doing the bushes and then having to be back underneath it in the future. It's going to have to wait until the summer when I have some holiday time and money Massive help from the forum as usual.
