  1. +1 I found this mate, have to agree with Andy:- As a rule of thumb, the hardware in a decent laptop will be "up to date" for two years, and the laptop can be expected to have a lifespan of 4 years during which it requires 1 or more repairs, after four years it may accumulate problems beyond the capability of economical repair. A desktop will be "up to date" for two years, likely run into a small problem within 4 years ($50 to $100 to fix), and can last 6 years before the cost of repair exceeds remaining value. Laptops are more expensive to repair, and are more likely to have problems that are impossible to repair. lifespan depends entirely on how you use the machine. The fastest way to destroy a laptop is to place it on a bed while it is running. This prevents hot air from escaping under the laptop and causes parts to overheat. This results in excess wear and tear of the silicon chips (which expand with heat and contract when cooled). A laptop that is usually left on a bed overnight is lucky to last a year without expensive or permanent hardware damage. Similarly, desktops that are not allowed to ventilate properly will encounter problems within 3 years, probably sooner, depending on the hardware (more advanced and powerful hardware produces more heat, thus causing more damage). Laptops are subject to more abuse than desktops, which is why laptops have shorter lifespans. If the average laptop made today were placed in a clean, well ventilated room, it could likely run for 10 years without problem if no one touched it. A desktop would probably last 15 years without problem in the same condition. Technically, computer components can run forever, if kept on and at full power without interference. For example, many of the satelites orbiting the Earth have been there for two or three decades and continue operating. They are subject to considerable abuse when launched from Earth, but are in a perfectly clean environment since then, and are properly shielded from solar radiation.
  2. Welcome Here's a very good reason to consider NOT using 95 fuel:- viewtopic.php?f=17&t=54781&p=791093&hilit=detonation#p791093 [quote=Thanks to those members on their thoughts on fuel. I am sure Westover will put 95 petrol in it when they hand the car over! I will experiment with the various grades.
  3. Very impressive Ian How do I get one of those ? I'll tell you in 2 posts time when I hit 15k
  4. Paul, walk away from the car now, you have already too many "nagging" issues in your mind. You know you'll find the right one eventually. Just my 2p mate as I see it
  5. And I had been waiting 5 minutes for you to appear Guess Joy was having 40 winks again
  6. Hand drawn with quality pencils no less
  7. I have never seen Colin soooo pumped!!! I was following him this year, when we stopped he sprung out of the car and was double fist punching the air I think he may have enjoyed himself, not sure about June though
  8. +1 To be fair, the car doesnt exactly know its on a ferry does it Thats what the deactivation button is for Movement on a slope could be good call though, I wouldnt imagine Nissan are nice enough to have a self levelling tilt sensor, so it probably is even more sensative on a slope.
  9. Ok, here's my 2p worth, I agree with Beavis, steer clear of Dell, had a company laptop some time ago and it was nothing but trouble Also agree with Neil, in the past I've also had two Acer laptops and both were absolutely trouble free I switched to Mac about 4 years ago and have a Mac Book Pro and an iMac, both have been absolutely fine, did upgrade Ram on both machines . If you are going to switch to Mac do some research on software that you currently use to make sure it's compatible. I run Quick Books and they don't make a UK Mac version so I have to run Windows XP pro via Parallels, it's not a big deal though. The cynic in me says that the more popular Macs become the more likely they are to be attacked so anti virus (available now) might be worth considering in the future. PM or text me if you want more info. Exactly... why waste your money on updates from Microsoft and Anti-virus software? Save that money and buy a Mac... NO viruses!!! You sure about that? Ok technically not a virus but a trojan Microsoft windows updates are free so you wont be wasting money either. My advice would be too steer clear of Dell though.
  10. You'd probably need to upgrade the Ram to 4gb, shouldn't be more than £40 from Crucial Memory That's what Mac's were DESIGNED for http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Apple-mac-lap ... 0717883211
  11. Seems it's all to do with Japanese Toll Roads :- http://www.accessj.com/2011/06/getting- ... eader.html

Apologies if you've posted them before but
  16. I had the Typhoon (sounded lovely) and have to agree with RT ref heat soak, in the end I cut the typhoon pipe to fit the standard air box, fitted the velocity stack upgrade and retained the K & N scoop and lower pipe. I have a Scanguage fitted and there has been a considerable drop in air intake temperature since, performance gains have been noticeable too.
  17. Celery..............The food of the devil IMHO
