  1. For the record, I wasn't saying they can run a 11 second quarter, I was just saying 400bhp is easy. Stage one with pumaspeed is induction and a map for 400+ BHP and about 600 quid. I've since done some digging tho and 11 seconds doesn't seem unrealistic this is taken from the RS forum top ten quater mile times with stock turbo TOP 10 STOCK Turbo (with mods, stock turbo) 1. 11.7xx @ 119.9x ~Theshopct/tune+ 2. 11.935 @ 116.26 ~gte (tune) 3. 12.394 @ 115.29 ~Michael@AMS (tune and filter) 4. 12.410 @ 113.57 ~Skitish 5. 12.586 @ ???.?? ~Snox801 (93tune) 6. 12.754 @ 111.33 ~Bluesteel93 7. 12.846 @ 105.10 ~Wicked RS (tune only) 8. 13.097 @ 105.74 ~GoDz (tune only) 9. 13.174 @ 106.64 ~alphadark (tune only, 8000+ DA) 10. 13.177 @ 100.54 ~bluesteel93 (tune and filter) And from Pumaspeeds website a stage 2 RS running low 12's on youtube
  2. Very easy to get the Focus RS and the Golf R into 400BHP territory
  3. I've had lot's of cars so will only list performance models... Started with a Saxo VTR Then to a Saxo VTS, I actually really liked the VTS, proper fun and very light little hatchback, was riddled with issues tho. EP3 Civic Type R - first car I properly modified, stripped interior, full exhaust, induction, coilovers and Kpro about 220BHP was a fantastic little B road car but got annoying on long drives etc. 350Z - Spent a fortune on this one, Wheels, suspension, clutch, flywheel, exhaust. Had a funny love/hate relationship with the Z, rust issues and a looming gearbox fault made me finally let it go. Current car is a stage 3 Focus ST3 320BHP., currently in love with this thing, does everything, comfy long drives and plenty of power when you need it, fastest car I've owned in a straight line by far. Future car is likely to be a new shape Focus RS, possibly next year depending on finances etc.
  4. Its far to early in the morning for hairdresser jokes! I think its time to get your coat strudul haha....
  5. I was going to mention the scoob but it seems too obvious, pretty sure that won't be his kind of thing either haha.... If I was that unsure about what to do I'd just keep what I had to be honest. Actually I did that with the Z and drove everyone on here mad for 2 years while I tried to work out what to buy next
  6. A 370Z isn't what I would consider a car old enough to be worried about it's age? Plenty of people on here running much older 350Z's with no problems? It seems your not easily pleased as you've dismissed pretty much every option within your budget already! You've said no to BMW's, Porsche's, GTR's, Jag's, Lotus, Aston's, hot hatch's and track orientated cars. Doesn't leave much left to be honest
  7. I was thinking about the 987 to be honest, the 981 is a lovely looking car. Really not keen on the 987. All personal opinion obviously.
  8. Just out of interest would you pick a used Cayman over a New Focus RS or Golf R?
  9. I agree the steering and chassis in the Porsche is better (not that it could be argued otherwise, it's a fact ) but that doesn't always mean more fun, at least for me anyway. I quite enjoy the brute handling style of the 350/370Z, it's not elegant or delicate it's more like a muscle car in a sense and I like that. My mam has a New Boxster and I had the keys to that for a couple of weeks while I lived with her recently, while it was nice to drive about in a brand new Porsche I still picked the Z most days over it. I realise we were talking about the cayman but I still feel the boxster is a relevant car to use as an example. Maybe I focus too much on out right speed and straight line performance but I just couldn't justify paying so much money for a car that isn't much faster in a straight line than a Z. On another note, the 370Z look's better too
  10. Focus RS or Golf R - both capable of serious performance and could be bought brand new within budget. I just can't get away with the lower end of the price scale Porsche stuff, Porsches don't do anything for me until you get into silly money GT3's etc. Couldn't justify paying 30k for a used cayman when the 370Z is three quarters of the car the Porsche is for less than half the price. A Cayman would be too similar to the 370Z for my liking. *Awaits flaming off Ekona.
  11. Lets do some proper one upmanship and upload videos of playing! 350Z forum guitar battle
  12. Cheers lads. Blow torch got it off! Intercooler also fitted. Running way better than before, boost comes in earlier and holds strong all the way up the revs. Sounds fantastic too . Ill get a video up soon.
  13. No didnt think of that tbh. Might have another crack today like.
  14. Update - Picked up the intercooler and de cats over the weekend Tried to fit them myself but failed at the first hurdle as the lambada sensor is completely stuck on the existing cats. Tried using a hammer with the spanner but to no avail. Look's like it's going to need a proper tool to get it off or if not I'll just cut the sensor off and buy a new one, bit of a pain in the rear
  15. Interesting! However a two door version is needed...
  16. Another one gone but still on the forum! Does anyone on here actually own a Z anymore ? I'm still here for the exact same reasons, by far the best car forum I've ever been a part of. Consider a good few on here actual friends now
  17. As above fuel consumption is nothing short of horrendous, so I can well believe that comment! I'm spending close to £80 a week . I Haven't bothered working out actual MPG, I'd imagine that would be pretty fruitless anyway, somewhere below 20mpg thats for sure. Anyway on a more positive note the old owner has offered to sell me the intercooler and de cats for a very good price so I'll be picking them up tonight hopefully. Going to attempt to fit them myself over the weekend with a little help from a friend. The lad has a dyno print out from when these mods were fitted and the car ran 318bhp. I also have the block mod booked in for February but after more research I'm starting to wonder if it's actually worth doing. Most of the motors I can see that have cracked a liner have been pre facelift models and with way more miles than mine has. You get completely mixed opinions on the ST forum, some people say it's an absolute must and others say it's unnecessary (they have ran 300bhp + for 40k plus miles with no problems etc) There seems to be no solid answer as to why the liners crack, what causes it and how common it actually is. On the Dreamscience website they list the work that gets done alongside the block mod included in the price and I think at 47k miles most of this stuff is unnecessary for me, starting to wonder if I'd be better off waiting until the belts etc need replaced and get it done then. Stainless Steel Shims x 4 Ford Head Gasket x 1 Both aux belts x 2 Ford Cambelt x 1 Cambelt Tensioner x 1 Cambelt Pulley x 1 Turbo Coolant/Oil Feed Washers* OEM Camshaft seals x 2 OEM Turbo manifold gasket x 1 Coolant change x 1 Oil and filter change, Castrol Edge 0W 40 x 1 Water pump replaced x 1 Head bolts replaced .... Variable cam seals replaced x 2 Outer sprk plug seals replaced x 5 Labour included.... Free smoke test and vehicle IDS diagnostic Anyway, expect an update over the weekend with a few pics/videos once the new mods are fitted, quite exited to feel/hear the difference
  18. Always fancied one of these but never had the balls to go buy one
  19. Worth a mention that while this last point may seem hard to believe its actually something I see on a daily basis. You tend to get customers who either make zero claims or customers who have an arrary of fault and no fault incidents. I guess this could be put down to bad luck more than anything else mind.
  20. I think the garage have some sort of relationship with the cleaners and it is routine for them to get the car cleaned after an MOT. I suppose the garage also do favours for the cleaners. Thanks Ebized, anytime an insurer has been made aware of an incident that was settled outside of insurance they tend to update the claims database and log it as a "no fault" (regardless of who was to blame). It sits on the database in the exact same way a no fault claim would and will affect the customer in exactly the same way too. People obviously want to do the right thing and inform the insurer when an accident has happened, they often settle it outside insurance then ring up to advise. Unfortunately most dont realize this will cause the insurer to update the database regardless and had they not been at fault they may as well have made a claim. You could argue its wise to make sure neither party informs the insurer if you are deciding to settle outside insurance as its not likely the insurer will find out about it otherwise. As Dan stated not all insurers will load a premium for a no fault claim or an incident settled outside insurance but some do. It tends to affect people who are already a bad risk to the insurer in a more negative way (young drivers, foreign license holders etc). One could obviously argue the insurers use no fault claims as an excuse to bump up the premium. The insurers argument would say someone who has had a few no fault claims is statisticly more likely to make a fault claim in the next year than someone who has had no claims at all.
  21. Nice! With a rig like that Im asuming you gig?

  23. Thanks Dan/Alex. This has really got me thinking now! It's not that I want to start a debate or anything, I just know logic and insurance companies doesn't really go hand in hand unfortunately. I completely understand your point Dan but I just can't help thinking the garage's insurance would still update the claims database once settled to say this happened. To give you another perspective lets Look at it from a private car insurers point of view. What happens if the garage repair the vehicle to a bad standard, nobody informs the insurance company about the accident or repairs and two weeks later something falls off the car causing an accident and a big third party claim comes in for tens of thousands of pounds. The insurer sends the assessor to check over the vehicle and establishes the accident was caused through bad repair work or previous damage from a recent incident they knew nothing about. I can't see that going down to well. I've delt with a few accidents that have been settled outside the insurance where the insurance company has been informed out of courtesy by the policy holder, often the insurer will request a new MOT and engineers report to make sure vehicle has been repaired to a good standard before continuing cover. I once saw an underwriter throw out a claim because it had came to their attention that the vehicle had previously been hit whilst parked by the owners neighbour, the owner wasn't in the car. The neighbour had paid for the damages and settled it outside insurance but told his insurer, his insurer updated the claim database to state an incident had occurred and they updated CUE with the information for both parties. Our insured had never disclosed this as he didn't think he had too, he wasn't at fault, he wasn't in the car and the damages had been repaired. Following a separate accident months later when our insured went to make a claim the insurer checked CUE and threw the claim out because this previous incident hadn't been disclosed. This was a pretty rare case but gives you an idea of what can potentially happen. The policy was declared void as in this particular case the insurer would have never covered our customer in the first place with this disclosed. As I say I don't know for certain either way how it works and while I think I may well be right I also think you could be right too, I'm just giving a little insight into why I'm thinking this way. I can find out for certain on Tuesday when I go back into work as I'll speak with a claims underwriter.
  24. Nice. Have you got a build thread on here? Or a link to one?
