  1. Also check the exhaust for rusty joins and blowing Maybe read through some of the guides and threads on here re leather restoration incase the leather is worn on the bolsters, it can normally be improved by a simple DIY
  2. The Bose can also suffer a problem where the passenger side speakers cut out, not a deal breaker as your best bet is to swap out the headunit anyway but could use it as a negotiation tool. Same with the clicking rear axel, yes it's annoying but after reading several threads on here (including a guide to grease the clicky parts) i was happy to buy mine with a clicky axel. Just be sure there is no other untoward knocking noises indicating worn suspension components Check the condition of the alternator and aircon belts for cracking and general deterioration, these are easy to view behind the slam panel at the front of the engine block - again not an expensive job £100-£150 all in or £30 for parts and an easy DIY. Good luck with your purchase, as i imagine you have already gathered this site is a wealth of information and very helpful members.
  3. Seems like a good price, I personally love a fixer upper.
  4. What'd age/plate is the car on? Does it have factory sat nav? Does it have parking sensors? Has it got the GT pack? What colour is the paintwork and interior? MOT? Tax? Any receipts for recent work, tyres, clutch, belts etc? All the above could affect the price and desirability of the car. For that money and mileage I think I'd expect around an '06 plate
  5. Thats a pretty common dodgy aircon smell tbh, the aircon in the carphone warehouse my sister works in smells like weed too.
  6. Just found this deal with ATS Euromaster if you have one locally.... http://www.atseuromaster.co.uk/discount-vouchers.htm £35 for an air con recharge and anti bac treatment. Not that i'm a fan of ATS, Quik Fit and the like nor would i recommend them to carry out any work on my cars but you never know.
  7. I used one of those in my old car, i got it from a trader on the BMW forum i used to use, it was a Davidoff Cool Water scent. It worked a treat. If i was to use one again, especially in the Zed with not much room, i would remove the passenger seat so the spray vent's into the atmosphere better, in my old car most of the bomb ended up spraying straight onto dashboard. I've also heard running the aircon on full fan and heat for a while on re-circulation may help to kill some of the smelly bacteria in the system, i've never tried it though. I probably need one for the scent, my A/C smells slightly.
  8. My mate saw mine for the first time a week ago and said it looked exactly the same as a TT, he is 30 and can't drive though.
  9. Sadly not, I was quoted over the phone so assume its a standard price list. I've never seen wheels in such a bad condition, all good now though. I could've spend £60 in petrol taking my car elsewhere and would have been without a car for several days so I paid the extra at TWS for convenience really. Im over the moon with the results just would have liked to have paid about £100 less. To the OP though the powder coat is a great finish, they haven't been waxed or sealed and the dirt pretty much just rinses off and the finish will be much harder than paint.
  10. I recently used the wheel specialist in fareham, dropped the car off at 8am and picked it up the same day at 16:30. My wheels were terrible corroded, covered in corrosion and bubbling and all of them were kirbed on the outer rim, I went for a gunmetal powder coated finish and they even sprayed the centre caps to match i am very happy happy with the results. They were very expensive though compared to other places, they originally coated £400!!! I only got them down to £350 which was a full, car in, strip tyres, prep and powder coat wheels, then refit tyres and rebalance the wheels jobby. This was still an extortionate price but the fact that they were only 10-15 minutes away (so I wasn't spending a fortune in fuel driving elsewhere) and offered a same day service swayed the decision for me as I have no spare wheels I could chuck on the car Don't forget the wheel specialists are a franchise so research your local branch for reviews before taking your car there.
  11. If the sale of the splash guards falls through I will take them off your hands
  12. I really like plates that match the car somehow, maybe one that incorporates ZED, or 350z somehow, i had a quick look when i picked up the car but there was nothing i liked enough. tbh i wouldn't want to pay more than £250 either, and the better ones i liked were £399 or £799.
  13. Have a look at the traders section on here for parts and mods there seems to be a trader here to cater for everything. I'm gonna get a carbon lip for mine at some point but will probably avoid the eBay ones tbh, there is someone on here that was making real carbon lips for £100 for the centre section of the lower bumper, that's what I'm planning to get. Jon
  14. Love your build threads, you certainly don't faff do you.
  15. Welcome, I'm only in Southampton. I also got rid of an E90 BMW for my zed, I did love my BMW but it was a diesel and fancied something completely different rather than swapping it for a petrol model although for a while I was looking for a 330i or a 530i in m-sport guise. Enjoy your new toy Jon
  16. Looks clean, not seen that colour before either, very swish. How do you clean the car living in a flat, are there outside hoses or something, I'm currently selling my house and will have to buy a flat instead so just wondered how I'm gonna keep my car clean. Jon
  17. If it helps a little, I've read on here about some people securing a couple of those little silica gel packs inside the tape deck of the Bose which helps the skipping, it's thought the skipping is caused by the condensation. I unfortunately have the skipping issue and passenger side speaker cut out issue so need a replacement, I really like the touch screen double din units too but don't want to pay hundreds for a DVD player I won't use. I personally am gonna go for a 2nd hand unit off eBay for £100-£150 Your best bet is to find a model you like and google it for the best price. For example I found a decent spec unit on caraudiocentre.com and googled that model, and amazon had the same new unit for £50 cheaper. Don't forget you will need a model with 3 pre outs if you have the Bose fitted, at least a 50w x 4 system and if you want to retain the steering wheel controls you'll need a unit with this feature (you may need to buy an additional adapter for this feature) Obviously you'll need a facia and ISO adapter too, and some units require an additional lead (not always included) for iPod connectivity Jon
  18. Nice looking zed it looks like a very tidy example, enjoy it! Great luck with the freebie private plate.
  19. I've only had my zed for 3-4 weeks now but from what I've read on here it's common for 1st to 2nd to be quite notchy, worse when cold. If Nissan have had the box out not so long ago and suggest it's ok I would probably put your issues down to the common characteristics of this box rather than any faults. Jon
  20. That's my next purchase sorted. Thanks for the inspiration!! Wish I'd bought these instead of my Nismo knob which I can't fit until I buy or borrow a couple of wrenches.
  21. I have this issue in a previous car, a good clean as mentioned above did the trick for me too. Good luck
  22. This happened to Hammond when he was testing the 350z convertible against the Crossfire and TT on top gear didn't it, lol.
  23. I remember reading a few threads suggesting changing the gearbox oil and adding molyslip when I was researching buying a Zed, I'll keep it in mind at my next service. I'm planning to go to one of the garages that use this site once I've worked out which is closest and i guess they'll all be aware of issues like this anyway.
  24. These threads about gearboxes put the fear of god into me. This is the 2nd thread I've read that mentions problems with 5th. I have a minor niggle with mine in that on occasions going from 6th to 5th quickly my gearbox crunches. It's only happened 2 or 3 times, could be coincidence or me not depressing the clutch properly, I'll have to keep an eye on it. I can't say I have a problem with stiffness or notchyness in the rest of the gears thankfully. I would say to the OP that I was very impressed with the gearbox and gear changes in an old mk1 Octavia vRS I had which could share a gearbox with your A4, possibly.
  25. Crikey! I'd love for my neighbour to own something like that. I have to admit I've always been a bit of a Ford fanatic, I absolutely adore mk1 and 2 escorts. I've not heard of a JRE engine before, I'll have to google it.
