  1. Thank you. My time as a boy scout is far behind me now so that must be why I have er, forgotten the meaning of the word I sort of knew what it meant but I think we used to use a different dialect word in Leicestershire to mean the same thing, namely 'baggsy'

  3. Quick, someone fetch ATTAKZ a new keyboard. His seems to be malfunctioning
  4. Thanks Chris'l That is the best idea, better than a website but the trouble is, I don't know anyone doing similar work The only person I can think of retired years ago and was probably paid in shillings!
  5. Thanks for that but, unfortunately, that is the rate for a factory worker and I am trying to find out the rates for a homeworker. It's made even more difficult really as they are normally paid piecework rates but unless I know a rough hourly rate I can't work out how much they would earn per piece, if that makes sense? I have estimated between £7 and £12 per hour and this may be a good enough guess to be honest. I am rubbish at making these kinds of decisions though and would much prefer someone to just tell me what to do
  6. I am trying to find out the average rate of pay for a particular job but am getting nowhere by Googling. Does anyone know if there is a website that might provide this sort of information? The job involves sewing/piecework and the person would work from home but I can't even find any ads for a similar job where the earnings are actually disclosed
  7. "The most academic people I have worked with are the biggest idiots." Really? I hear they speak very highly of you
  8. Can't take you up on that dare this evening DoogyRev 'cos I haven't had my Brave Pills "BTW, are you saying Mr TwoBears is socially inept?" I will leave that for those that meet him to judge Ha ha. No, he's great really
  9. "agree where is the fun if you haven't done it yourself" Ha ha - we must stop agreeing like this
  10. raduv66, my all time favourite brain surgeon doubles as a builder dontcha know? You misunderstand me if you think I am saying that having a degree qualifies you to do any job you like What I am trying to say is that simple common sense is just that i.e. simple for most people, academics included. Laying bricks or re-wiring a house needs to be learnt so I don't include them as jobs requiring simply a modicum of common sense. Wiring a plug on the other hand is something that even I could do given a following wind ...
  11. No, it's more than my life's worth Peace and love to all you IT people
  12. Don't get us started on EQ I could write something really inflammatory about IT bods and social skills but I won't, especially as Mr TwoBears is IT oriented
  13. Goodness Wasso - that squirrel must be a hard working little chap That is sooooo shiny!
  14. Your friend sounds like a liability As much as I'd love to start my own software company I would hate to lose the ability to decorate, clean my car or put up my Christmas decorations since at least one of those things is something I really enjoy. Not saying which one though, except to say that I normally do it in the middle of December
  15. Dave, i understand what you are saying but it is a fallacy though, or at least in my experience. Intelligent people can be full of common sense. Stupid people on the other hand ... The Darwin awards are probably not awarded to that many academics if you think about it Also, if you needed brain surgery would you rather have your operation performed by a highly intelligent man who has practised brain surgery or an electrician? I mean how hard can it be? The brain is full of 'wiring' after all p.s. I hope I am still allowed to park next to you in Wales? p.p.s. I am in no way belittling electricians (I haven't the brains to become one ) or hod carriers. Each to their own I say. I value both practical and academic skills and try never to judge anyone based on their occupation.
  16. But your assertion that intellect doesn't equal intelligence makes no sense I'm afraid Why on earth would an historian be unable to wire a plug? Again, your statement is illogical. Exactly what is it about an historian that would render him or her incapable of wiring a plug in your opinion? I love a good debate but there simply has to be a certain measure of logic brought to bear on the topic under discussion and, in this case, unless I am so lacking in intelligence/intellect that I cannot follow your argument, I cannot see any. Sorry. I am completely apolitical but I don't think any politician is honourable in the sense in which you mean it so that is one thing that we can agree upon
  17. 'you might not have a willy but your still waving' Am I? In what way? Can you explain what intelligence is if it is not cleverness? I am a very practical and highly logical person and have no problem working out how to use the various machines that I need to do my job. I am largely self-taught and yet manage to do printing and embroidery to a high standard so, by your measure, am I intelligent or not? Bear in mind that you have no idea if I possess any academic qualifications but, presumably, you don't need to know since you measure intelligence in a wholly different way? I am intrigued to hear your answer.
  18. "I don't doubt these degrees are hard work etc etc but it is in no way a sign of how intelligent a person is." I am sorry but that is nonsense. You don't get awarded a Masters or PhD for just turning up and 'working hard' as though you were carting bricks around a building site. If you are not intelligent it doesn't matter how 'hard' you work, you will not be awarded a higher academic qualification. I don't have a willy but I can assure you that, if I did, I would not be waving it
  19. If it makes everyone feel safer (apart from the risk takers amongst you!) I could park back here in Yorkshire every night though
  20. Oh yes, I had forgotten that
  21. You may both regret those statements
  22. OMG, that is exactly how I come to a halt but with more crunching noises Would those who are going to Wales prefer me to park quite a distance away? England maybe?
  23. "Members can only see their own points. The team can see everyone's" Do you listen to "I'm Sorry I haven't a clue?" Your last comment would pass for a risqué joke on there
  24. Ha ha I promise not to park too close to anyone else. I don't want to be sent home in disgrace do I? My parking can get more 'creative' than that HaydnH
