  1. Insurance wise.... yep... they arnt cheap. Im nearly 40 and have 18 years NCB, most of which has been gained driving high performance cars. The cheapest I found was nearly £800. As a comparison from trying different cars on confused.com, a Peugeot 205 Gti came in at 85quid (fully comp), a Golf GT TDI came in at 250quid, a Porsche Boxster was £600 and a M3 SMG came in at £500. For some reason all the insurance companies treated the zed as if it was some sort of Ferrari or Lambo. There are some "specialist" insurance companies out there, but I actually found they came in at about £1200->£1400. Admiral, Adrian Flux and Elephant were all the cheapest for me. Good luck!
  2. Welcome to the forum. This is certainly the best place to find all the info you want on the zeds, so you know what to look out for when you go looking. Theres loads of zeds out there, but you may have a bit of a search to find the right one for you.
  3. Normally with CV joints you get the play with the wheel on. So id double check that it is a CV joint before you go through the hassle of changing one out.
  4. hehe, must be a new owner thing, listening to exhaust notes on youtube - i did the same a few weeks back when i bought mine! the tapedeck thing did make me laugh, seems pointless to have one when I havent listened to tapes since about 1992. You can do the ipod hack - ive just done this to mine, which lets you listen to your ipod through the tape channel on the oem stereo. Works a treat and actually sounds very nice through the bose system. Only downer is that you dont get song name or anything like that on the unit which you`d get on an aftermarket system. welcome to the forum!
  5. Yeah, i tend to use a bit of scaffolding pole over a breaker bar usually on some cars. At least with the zed it looks like it has normal bolts rather than hex or torques bolts. Hopefully I may be able to get away with keeping the orignal discs and just changing the pads.... will examine them better later and see.
  6. Hi Alezan was avaliable on the post 07 cars. Ive got one! Welcome to the forum!
  7. Excellent guide. Im going to have to do mine over the next couple of weeks, so this has made the job much easier!
  8. My thoughts exactly! Ive been looking for an 07 one.
  9. I have to wonder if it would be worth the effort. My missus`s last car let you put the roof up/down if you were doing less than 10mph (or something like that). I think we only ever did that once in 2 years of driving it. With a roof which goes up / down so quickly you can do it whilst stationary at traffic lights or quickly pull over.
  10. Christ, common as muck where you are from the sounds of it. I didnt see a single 350z all weekend and yet I must have spent 3 or 4 hours driving this w/end.
  11. Nice looking motor, and looks good in black. I wanted to get one this year as a few of my friends have them, but my missus wouldnt let me.
  12. I actually thought you meant a Peugeot 309! I used to have one of those, the 309 Gti... basically same as a 1.9 205 Gti but with the boot. I remember buying it for £800 as a right wreak, having it 12 months, then selling it for £1400. Having only recently bought my 309 zed, im amazed at how cheap the RX8`s are in comparison. I could have bought 2 nearly new ones for the same price I paid for my zed. So, certainly worth considering. Another option would be a porsche boxster - again you can pick these up for a lot less than a 309 zed - personally they are not my cup of tea, but some like them.
  13. Now thats a bad decision if ive ever heard one. Ive always thought the 4 door a3 looked terrible compared to the 3 door. More like some sort of a3 estate! Dont they do the golf R32 in a 3 door? You`d have thought that audi would be trying to be a rival for that car? Surely if people wanted a 4 door audi they would go for the a4/rs4 or something rather than an rs3.
  14. Good point.... i`ll get the multimeter on it and see what its showing. The missus would kill me if i blow her iphone up...
  15. Just finished doing this mod to my car. All went well. Mines the facelift 07 model with the factory sat nav. So, in order to reach those 2 top screws which hold the bose unit in, you need to pop out the small trim panel between the sat nav controls and the sat nav screen. The best way to do this is to slide a credit card in there, then use a wide bladed screw driver. Its just clipped in, so will pop out easily. You then need to undo 2 silver screws which hold the sat nav controls in, then pull the control panel up (its clipped in at the bottom), unplug it, and then carry on as per the above guide. Another thing, the ipod / iphone lead I got had 2 extra wires for power. I wired the black (earth) wire up to the metal chasis behind the centre control - the mounting screws screw into this, so was an ideal point to connect. (wrap wire around screw before you screw it in). The live wire, i spliced in to the thick white / blue? lead. Its easy to see as its the thickest lead going into the connectors on the back of the bose unit. This is perminantly live. Now, not only can I play stuff from my ipod/iphone, I can charge it at the same time. Interestingly, as soon as I started taking the dash appart I could see missing screws and evidence that someone else had already been there before me. The only thing I could find was that something must have been spliced into the perminant white/blue power wire, the thin grey wire and another wire on the same connector (3 wires) - as all 3 wires had tape wrapped around them. Not sure what this would have been? Finally, i really wanted the ipod lead to come out in the little compartment next to the handbrake with the sliding top on it... but couldnt work out how to pop the centre tunnel trim up in order to feed the wire through to it. Any ideas? Cheers for an excellent guide!!!!!
  16. Thats scarily similar to mine also. Ive got some lamb of god, limb biscuit, prodigy, faith no more, skid row and pitbull daycare in mine atm. Until i get the ipod lead wired in, ive had to go from CD`s full of mp3`s down to 6 albums! Mind you, i think its about time i changed them out, getting bored of the same 6 albums atm....
  17. I got "in compliance" also in the work sweepstake. Will-hill was showing odds of 51-1 on it yesterday, so its hardly a favourite. I used to do a lot of betting on the horses and the favourite only wins 25% of the time, so your better off lay betting against what ever the favourite is.

    keys

Sounds like you might have a deal there. The car would have had 3 keys from new. 2 Electric ones and a "valet key". Ive got all 3 with mine.
  19. Same here... my missus wants to drive mine and I said no. Her response was "but i'm covered 3rd party only on my insurance". As if that makes it okay!!!!!
  20. were you sitting beside her hanging on for dear life?! i know i would be if the missus drove mine.
  21. Id be tempted to take the cash for it personally from my experience. If the guys first offer is £500, then the chances are you can get him up a bit higher than that. Cars which have been sat for a while like that usually end up costing quite a bit to get back on the road. If you have no plans to get it back on the road soon, then imagine what condition it will be like when you finally get around to it. Plus, factor in the cost of hiring a car transporter, shifting it and having somewhere to shift it to.... you soon end up spending loads on it. If it was a really rare car then id say keep it. Another alternative will be the old ebay. Millions of people on there, and things always fetch the market price which is what its worth at the end of the day.
