  1. Welcome and enjoy that 370.. you have the best colour too IMHO
  2. Okay so Ive had my 370 now for over 4 weeks and have sussed things out. My mistake was getting information from the workshop manual freely available for download but for the US market...The US spec is different to UK. So I now have sorted out the spec of my car... Bog standard BASE with metallic paint upgrade. Base has the 18" wheels and the Alloy space saver, Oh and yes all UK cars have the LSD..Im pleased no say!!
  3. Yes you have cam chains so no cam belts to worry about ...the auxiliary drive belts are easy to change less than an hour. Sevicing is so easy on a zed. Take care and enjoy. BTW this forum is the best Ive had so much good help and advice
  4. So I have to ask why do people buy chip fat (aka diesel) burning cars... when the modern diesel engine is loaded with technology to enable it to nearly replicate a petrol engine causing it to be less reliable and more expensive to run and service..let alone the smell and noise they make? When you can have a reasonably economic large capacity petrol engine that can return over 30 to the gallon and give enjoyment too........
  5. Its not the fast idle its the rorty note ...just for the first 15 seconds..sounds a bit like the bafles are missing then it quietens down... my 350 didn't do this......but from the earlier comment from will370z it may well be a Idiosyncrasy with the 370 engine management.
  6. 29 out of my 370....but stuck at 70 in averaging cameras 50 miles a day. Better than my 350 though that was 26 mpg same drive.
  7. Just wondered if anyone else with a 370 has this, not that its a problem just curious. On a cold start the exhaust note is decidedly rorty for about 15 seconds, then it quietens down to a smooth even fast idle. I have no leaks and the noise comes out of the exit pipes rather than a leak etc. I imagine its the engine management.. as I said no issue and the cars only done 12,000 miles etc and running a standard exhaust sytem....just wondering.
  8. Should be easy peasy....... if its going on cross threaded something is not correct
  9. Walk away from this...its grief...well dodgy. Something is very wrong with all these stories...If the seller gets it all sorted then reconsider..maybe!
  10. If the rings are broken then the cylinders will need replacing or reboring..(not sure if they are sleves).almost for sure...all seems a bit odd though! Oh and stripping one of these engines is no mean task. I have built many engines over the years but would not want to rebuild one of these. I gues I am trying to say dont underestimate whats involved...I think most would not bother and scrap to engine and fit a good used one...and even then its a lot of hastle....or maybe I'm getting too old for all this stuff!!
  11. MMmm yes I totally agree that HOT cats my get rid of oily residue from the inside of the exhaust tips...but maybe you would still get a bit of smoke...very good point though. It will be most intriguing to hear how this maps out! If you have got broken rings (over reving / pre ignition /over advanced ignition / wrong grade fuel) I would of thought that it would run rough at low speed and lack pull. Fingers crossed its not so bad.
  12. If you actually do have damaged or broken piston rings the symptoms are: Oily exhaust tips Smoke 'blue' from the exhausts especially after throttling off then on again. Its going to pre ignite like a good'un too, so rattly when putting your foot down. probably miss a bit, noticed when under load. If you dissconnect the crackcase breather it will be oily and when running smoking too. If this engine is that bad its probably got a holed piston...which means its been well thashed or run low on oil.... If it were me I would: Clean up the exausts and see if they stay dry and clean. Take out the spark plugs and see if any are ouly ..if so thats the end of that! Change the oil Pray.. BTW why did you buy it??
  13. Manual is a better 'drivers' car but the 1st to 2nd shift on the manual can be a bit tedious if you not so used to zed driving and do a lot of stop start town driving!
  14. I had a simular issue, I had to remove the window motor and clean up the commutator that was coated in silicon type grease, refit and then the reset procedure. I used petrol and fine abrasive paper (1000 grade)...problem solved.
  15. Im in Camridge too...if you fancy meeting up?
  16. why get the dealer to do it when you can do it yourself?
  17. Prise the motor body apart...........remove the carbon brushes...........dress them with a needle file or using carborundum paper, grade 400 or 240.......put back together...recrimp motor body.....job done. I reckon theres a living to be had doing this!!! I would double check alls working again by applying 12V before putting back on the car.
  18. The oil pressure warning is a totally different issue..its to tell you you have low or no oil pressure..it it was true you would not be driving the car...so chances are you have either a poor connection or a duff sender unit (most likely)... no pressure would would make the poor engine sound like a bag of nails and would not run for many seconds......Hope this helps!
  19. Plugs are good for 60K
  20. Thanks for the reply..hey sorry about my spelling...
  21. Hello wonder if anyone can help...several questions. Having just traded from a 350 -> 370 a couple of weeks ago. 1) Has my 370 a limited slip differential? I get two black lines if I boot it off the line and if you jack it up and turn one wheel the other one turns in the same direction...I've been led to believe this means it does have the LSD anyone agree? 2) It also has 4 pot front brakes.. is this standard or an option? 3) Is the boot spoiler a standard fitment or an extra? 4) Is the boot cover that clips to the boot lid standard? 5) I have a alloy space saver and a jack etc is this normal It all looks stard but I have heard some on the forum say they ony has a can of glup instead os a spare wheel. I think that keyless enty/start is standard on all 370's? The car was registered late December 2009..... Any (nice helpfull) comments please ....thanx
