I have always replaced both sides as a matter of course, but I am not suggesting that everyone does what I say, The OP asked for advice, I gave him my advice, Thats me, belt and braces. With tyres, I was referring to certain cars that don't like having one tyre replaced, yes, I agree, not every car but some. I don't see that a bearing of such small value is a waste of money, you would have peace of mind, and lets say, you only change one, and the noise is still there, what are you going to do? Eh, replace the other one. If the noise is gone problem solved, if the noise remains, well, something else is at fault. How much value do you put on your life you can rest assured, if one is going, the other won't be far behind, and the tolerances will be better, its similar to changing one tyre.

Either way, you should always change both. Jack up the car and see if you can wobble the wheel, hands at 12 and 6 O'clock and at 3 and 9 O'clock. You should be able to see if one wheel wobbles more than the other. But, change both...... for prices...

Better suited to a saxo/clio etc...... If you get my drift

Welcome to the forum. Checked your oil and pressure? Year of car would help, but I would suspect its the oil getting to the top of the engine is slow and you are hearing the tappets rattle around until the oil pressure it sufficient to stop the making a noise. Check your oil and change it if you haven't already done so. Are you burning oil?

I used to put the axle stand under the front suspension and use the hydro jack and oem jack front and back, you can get a good height from the oem and hydro combined, car is at a 40 degree angle though.
