All in all, with other bits and pieces wrongly diagnosed .......... in the region of £2000.00 (pleeeze don't tell the wifey) The part was sourced from Nissan ..... £263.55 + VAT and fitted by my local garage.

In response to your PM Dave I found out what was causing the knock by an expensive process of elimination having checked all the usual stuff and replaced various items as noted in my post. Eventually the noise stopped when the compression rod (item 11 on attached diagram) was changed. Hope you get to the bottom of it shortly.

Sounds like a bad passenger side cat (P0430). Stock cats are covered under the federal emissions warranty for 8yrs/80K. You can try swaping the rear 02's side to side to see if it code changes to P0420 (driver side) but it's most likely the cat.

Most early cars came without RAYS as they were a £1000 option Yea, but when I ordered mine (early 2004) I was told that all cars were coming into UK with the Rays option fitted, so it was a no-option option i.e. you had to take the Rays and pay the £1000.00
