Variation is not permitted That sums it up nicely IMHO- I had to change mine to comply when a nice policeman asked me to last year, Over the years I've been stopped four times and the last time it was serious - 'get it changed or else' - I guess it's to do with the number plate recognition cameras that are prevalent now. The only thing you haven't mentioned and what I'm still not sure about, if your number is short, say A1 ZED, is it allowed to cut down the plate?

Lol, my Zed doesn't count really being across the pond. 5 years, 7 months and counting. Mine was due from the dealer 01 March 2004 - in fact it didn't arrive on my drive until 15 March 2004 and since I'd already let my old car go to the new owner I kicked up a fuss So the dealer gave me a Z wristwatch and his Z to use in the meantime Boy that dealer car was fast I guess that makes me the owner for 5 years 8 months
