When fitting an aftermarket amp, you won't get past running a power cable to that amp straight from the battery. Speaker wires could work, even if they needed extending.

Going from my own experience, as I have a Pioneer too, usually the pioneers require in-line boosters to up the volume level to work with the OEM speakers and amp. I too first changed to HU and retained the OEM gear, needed boosters and ground insulation boxes. So perhaps they did fit in-line boosters and have just turned the Gain levels up to the max, which could cause the distortion?

I just grounded my handbrake wire to the ground wire on the aftermarket wiring loom. If you are replacing the Bose amp with aftermarket, then you won't get around running a power line straight from the battery to the new amp. Speaker wires however will prolly be salvageable, might need extending to reach the new amp.

What headunit is it? Was it installed by a shop? Have you visually checked if the speaker cones have torn?

Not wanting to sound like a brand snob, but my Alpine PDX-5 cost four times as much and produces half the power. But, it depends what you are wanting to power tho. Do you need 3000W?
