NW Drive Out - Spring 2007 - 15th April
Chesterfield replied to Digsy's topic in Meets, Shows and Events
So because you, one person that originaly said you could make the 15th, now cant come on the 15th, we should change the date. What about Digsy? He cant make the 29th - so should we change it to suit you and upset Digsy? (who incidentaly was one of the two people that got the ball rolling on this in the first place) The date is the 15th. Its been aded to the calendar by Mike, and its been decided. -
Its got to be a setting somewhere in the ecu. For the golf switching on auto lock, and changing the number of presses for total unlock of the car etc was a simple change of one number from a 1 to a 2, or 0 to a 1 etc. The software was almost foolproof (as long as you stayed away from airbag settings etc), very user friendly - simply plug the cable into the car and laptop, start the program, start the car, and hey presto use the graphical interface to roam around the ecu settings in an easy to understand manner, and make the changes you wanted. It was brilliant. Just a shame that there isnt such software readily available for the Z. There are pieces of software to read the ecu and show you any error codes etc - which was also a helpful feature of the VAG software, as you could diagnose your own faults, and state exactly what the issue was when taking the car to a dealership, or if you have no warranty, you dont have to spend a fortune on abour costs to diagnose the errors. I am truly shocked that no technical wizard in Japan or the US has come up with the same thing for the 350z. Mind you, who has the bottle to beta test such software with their Z?

Actually Im guessing this folding of the mirros when locking the car etc is a simple tweak in the ecu settings. I have a serial to ODBII cable that I used with VAG-COM on the golf. Using that people were able to tweak the alarm, central locking (i.e one click for one door two for all doors) auto lock at a certain speed and auto unlock when key removed. However, without the right software, which can ammend the necessary codes in the ecu, I wouldn't advise connecting such a cable to your laptop and having a poke around. I would have thought the japanese or americans would have developed some sort of ODBII software for the 350z by now. I would think that altering the mirrors to do various things like fold in on park and tip down when in reverse would be a simple setting somewhere in the ecu.

Pingu - what screen did you go for? Im guessing thats going to be the most crucial piece of kit so as to make it look a professional job.

The in car PC idea is something ive always wanted to do for ages, but never really found the time or resources to make a go of it. I think there are many (myself included) that although we are fairly technicaly able, would love to do this but just havent quite got the skills to that level. A "how to" guide for this would be excellent. I can volunteer my assistance to anyone who wants to get such a guide up on this site, Id love to get one in my car so would be willing to put the guide together with the technical assistance of anyone who has done this or wants to do this. Hopefully we can end up with a specific parts list, installation and setup guide for members.

NW Drive Out - Spring 2007 - 15th April
Chesterfield replied to Digsy's topic in Meets, Shows and Events
Probably better to send a specific date with any mass email, or it will just result in mass confusion. Its inevitable that some would be dissapointed no matter what date we picked. If we picked the 29th, Digsy would be miffed, if we pick the 15th you are miffed, we just have to go with a majority. The sooner we picked it, the less pople would be upset that the date didnt suit them. If we decided after the weekend, the chances would be that we would dissapoint more people than we have by electing the date now. -

15th it is then. The sooner we set the specific date the easier it is for people to rearrange stuff if possible, and the sooner those under the thumb can start dropping hints etc... DATE IS THE 15TH APRIL. -

Unless of course you drum up support for a day that you can make - as it hasnt officially been set yet (we should do this though). I think perhaps a bulk email to users and then set the date at the weekend? -

Chesterfield replied to Digsy's topic in Meets, Shows and Events
We started the idea so as to do arrive atthe date as fairly as possible. It appears that the 15th is lining up to be the date, sorry... -
And for the 350 posts you'll get a sticker to put in/on it too! PM Val (TheMinel) and let him know what colour an whether you would like interior or exterior. The end of May will seem an eternity away now! Congratulations

So as far as I see, we have: 8 deffinites for the 1st, 10 deffinites for the 15th 9 including one possible for 22nd 10 including 2 possibles for the 29th, This seems to suggest that the 15th is the best date. Can we narrow it down to a single date now so that people can make necessary arrangements, and/or rejuggle whatever is preventing them making the 15th? -
None Every now and then I keep looking for that elusive Roadster model in blue with Rays, but no luck. Ive found a sunset one with standard wheels but thats as close as Ive got.

It looks like the 15th is the most popular so far - perhaps we pencil it in for then? -
So you wont want to be doing the 1000 mile or so European trip then For me its how easy the paint chips. Saving grace is, at least my roof cant chip.

What it means is that you have "attached" up to 2mb worth of attachments to your posts. If you click on your user profile (the button under each of your posts that says "profile") There is a link in there that will allow you to view what attachments you have posted. If the threads are now old or attachments are no longer needed, you can delete them to free up space. You can host pictures either on our own gallery (gallery link above) or on a site such as photobucket etc. Our gallery has a limit of 2mb also I beleive. Nope - you certainly dont have to buy credits etc for the site, I have upped your allowance to 5mb for attachments, so you should now be ok - but in order to be able to post up a large picture without having the thumbnail, you will need to host the pictures either on photobucket (or similar) or on our gallery and link to it that way. Attachments to posts are not primarily intended for displaying pictures, but are useful if you want to attach word documents or spreadsheets etc. Post up if you have any difficulties and we can talk you through it if you want Hope that helps...

Reading into it, it looks like it wasnt the "owner" that crashed it, but some chap that was renting it at £20k a day. If you read the story on the "sun" website (the paper that was sent the original photos by the passer by) after the driver and passenger had been stood there with the car for a while, a chap in a 4x4 turned up and started raving at the pair. I can only assume that was the rather irate owner that turned up to have a chat with the driver. If I was said driver, I would be looking over my shoulder, as anyone who can afford not only to buy a Veyron, but have the bottle to then rent it out, may know the odd dodgy character that could teach the driver a lesson

Criminal damage, plain and simple. There could be a way to force the culprit to own up..... Insurance premiums are based on (amongst other things) crime rates for the area. If the person wishes to post you a cheque for the damages, they should do so, otherwise you will report the matter to the police, causing an official "crime" to be recorded for the specific area, which will result in everyone forking out a little bit more on their insurance premiums because of one mindless idiot in the complex. It may work, it may not - but is it worth a shot?

That guy that cut his Ferrari in half (I say his Ferrari, but it belonged to the bank) is in Prison in the US on multiple charges. Apparently the bank that owned the cars (another Enzo and a Mercedes Mclaren) are suing for the value of the cars. Other stories suggest they seem to have disapeared. http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,, ... 08,00.html

You can read about the VW one here: http://www.snopes.com/photos/advertisements/vwpolo.asp The guys web page is here (where you can see a bunch of their viral adds) http://leeanddan.com/ You can see the ford Ka adverts here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 0293859496

I saw this ages ago. Apparently it was made by the advertising company in their spare time, and not comissioned by VW (for obvious reasons). I think they made a few others too - like the ford ka that cuts a cat in two or smacks a pigeon etc.

Fixed now.

Its not the owners insurance Im that bothered about. Whichever underwriter it is that has it insured is about to be out of pocket about £1,000,000. (would you put a 250mph car back on the road after a smash like that?) Which means they are going to be looking for ways of getting that £1m back... A few cheaper repairs here, a few higher quotes there etc.... It will be the rest of the customers underwritten by the same insurer that will be paying for this.
