Christmas Do 15th December 2007 Birmingham
Chesterfield replied to Sarnie's topic in Meets, Shows and Events
I think for central location, (and probably make it a little further south as the last social gathering was Manchester/North Wales) then Birmingham would be suitable. So, date is Saturday 15th December Location Birmingham (hotel suggestion Liam?) Attendees: 1) Sarnie 2) Chesterfield -
Ive got a set of four, one with slight scuff near one of the wheel nut wells, and only two have tyres, one rear and one front. (but they are nearly new tyres) Collection only, £150 ono, someone take them away please.

They both screw and hang on the wall (at the same time). They hang on two screws and then have four pints of anchor with very long screws to the wall. The botom steel section at the front folds down to reveal the controls. There is no taking these on and off the wall, and I wouldnt have thought mounting in front of plug sockets was advised, or indeed legal from a safety point of view.

Actually I did. (anyone thats visited our house knows Im a DIY nut) Regulations state that installations must be carried out by a competent person. If you are a competent DIY person then it is possible to do the job yourself. I had to remove an old flue fire and brick up the internal and external walls too. There are things to consider before you do the work yourself though. Primarily is that your insurance could be affected if a gas appliance is not installed by a CORGI registered fitter or has the appropriate checks carried out after installation. I had mine checked when a Corgi fitter came round to do some other work in our house. You cannot install a gas device for anyone other than yourself if you are not CORGI registered, so you cant have a competent DIYer install it for you, nor can you install one for someone else. I was lucky in that the pipe leading to the existing fire was long enough to connect to the new one, and the isolator valve for the fire did not require relocation - if this wouldn't be the case for yourself and you needed pipe extensions or valve relocations, getting a CORGI fitter in would probably be prefferable (even though they dont come cheap). Not that you couldnt do the work, but better safe than sorry I suppose. Just to correct myself, you can actually put things above these types of fire, like Jonathan has, but you need a fair gap, and/or some sort of heat sheild on the shelf, which Jonathan has.

We have one of these: Its a flueless fire, they dont require any kind of hole in the wall. They "eat" their own fumes, so only a ventilation brick or some other sort of ventilation required in the room. These are VERY efficient as you do not lose hot air out of the flue. Styles of new contemporary flueless gas fires are becoming a lot more varied, some are a lot cooler than the standard rectangle... Places like B&Q sell them starting at about £500, not the cheapest, but installation is a lot easier, cleaner and quicker than flue/powerflue fires. One thing to note though is that as they spew hot air out of the top, which means placing a mantle or plasma screen etc above the fire is a no no.

The Jam house looks like a nice place. Not to sure about the after party suggestion - the +1's wont be amused.

Birmingham is fairly central, (though for any Scottish members that want to make the journey its a bit south of central) Im sure there will be a decent restaurant and a few bars we could visit. Plenty of nearby acomodation too I would guess?

15th sounds good to me, its a good 6 weeks away to make plans, its not too near christmas (22nd) its not the quiet period between Christmas and new year, and its not the 8th so the boxing fans can make it? Sound good? Can the 15th be the flag in the ground for date?

Nah not counting on his tax contributions at all - more power to him! Id love to be able to cut the tax bill I pay by the same percentage! Good on him. I think Id just like to see him stand up and say thats the reason why, so it makes the taxation system look like the bad apple in all this rather than the press. If they all did it there may be the fain glimmer of hope that they would change the rules which would positively affect the rest of us mere mortals. Then again its probably grasping at straws So would I stay in the country in his position - absolutley not. Id just like the taxman to have the finger pointed at them for once. Maybe its my lovely new tax code and the tax return waiting to be filled in at home thats wound me up. Id just like Lewis to publicly stick it to the HMRC for all of us!

The fact is that he will still be followed by the press wherever he goes, just because of who he is and how he has taken the F1 world by storm, when the next season starts and Hamilton fever is cranked up right from the first race rather than half way through the season, it will just be the same for him. Which is a shame, but not something that I see differing hugely after a move abroad. If he does not like the public attention that comes with being a motor racer, why allow the realease of books about his life and set up other media events aimed squarely at increasing the public interest in him as a person,?? The press will follow him round the globe like they always have, its not as if the British papers are short of a few bob to send a reporter over to Switzerland on easyjet. Im just very dissapointed that either he, or his PR advisors, wont stand up stand up and say the obvious - he is raking in millions and the tax system in the UK makes it unrealistic to expect that kind of earner to stick around when they have the option of moving abroad and undertaking the same role. Whether its partly down to press and partly down to taxation, his reasons are his own, I just object to the public/press interest being used to shoulder the entire "blame" when it is just not the case.
-
Well he has seriously gone down in my estimations... Saying that he is off to Switzerland because he cant lead a normal life here, and that its because he is left alone in Switzerland - blah blah blah.... If you are moving away from Britain to escape the higher taxes, at least have the brass tacks to tell the truth. Of course its nothing to do with the fact that he may qualify for the single lump sum tax payment which would save him a few million quid on his salary. Im sure the vast majority of the public would be right behind him given half the chance.

As before I think the agreement has been that drive outs are Z only but social events such as any christmas bash should be open to everyone ad everyone associated with the site. Would be good to meet up with all the new faces and those who still stick with us even after the Z has gone... If you have any reccomendations for locations and or dates in a central area Liam Im sure they would be appreciated. Perhaps a poll should be set up for date prefferenceand then take it from there? PS.. New years day is actually our birthday too

Absolutely gutted I couldnt make this, looks like another fun day out had by all again. Great work by Beavis and all who helped organise

areas like Colder fuel? The night racing should be good - although depending on lighting it may be tricky TV viewing. Would imagine the track will be lit up like a night golf course though.

If anyone is worried about blending on paintwork (like me) then I advise you to steer well clear of Ultra Yellow. You can almost see a tear in the eye of any painter when you drive up in a 3 coat pearl yellow.

Hi Ian, Welcome aboard always great to see another Z driver join up Hope you enjoy the place

The best way of confirming to make it easily visible is just to put your name in bold on the list - do this by adding [b ] before your name and [/b ] after your name (without the extra spaces).

My missus was just born to shop. Whether its clothes, house furnishings or houses themselves!

One regular trick is to incorporate a days shopping on the Saturday at the nearby Massive shopping area for the lady folk.
