Had a little bit around here, but nothing to get excited about. I remember truding to school in a foot or more, snowball fights at breaks and on the way home. half an inch of snow today and they shut the schools, stop the busses and batten down the hatches.

No choice for me, Ill be here until I have to force the door open to get out, and as long as we have tea, buiscuits and central heating in the office, the staff can stop too!

Dont you find it strange how its illegal for a car to have a front number plate on at an angle, but perfectly fine for a motorbike to have none at all... I suppose its something to do with the safety of a motrbike not having a number plate which would act like a meat cleaver upon impact with a pedestrian. So its OK for a forward facing ANPR and SPECS camera to not be able to detect motorcycles that speed, but illegal for cars to be able to pass these camers without a front number plate on... And they maintain its still not about the revenue.... yeah yeah...

The Other Half's car - depreciation nightmare!
Chesterfield replied to had ham's topic in Other Cars
Id like to see him repeat those sales when "normal" pricing resumes. If "normal" pricing resumes, then there will be a long gap between new cars and second hand cars - unless of course they intend to increase the price of a second hand car... -

As they are currently selling the Aventura with all bells and whistles via the "friends and family" scheme at around £15k I believe, then its easy to see where they got that figure from. Its a fairly depressing picture -

Theres no way volvo will make anything as stylish as that. The concept drawings are quite nice, as they were with the C30, but then they innevitably manage to create the same slab sided boxes as they always do.

Thats fantastic - though the swirl marks on the number plate are a bit harsh Seeing the shine on that black, almost gives me the urge to wash the black car I have, if I could make as good a job, maybe I would - but I wouldnt, so I wont... -

Dont know where my figures came from then, perhaps they were higher from nissan a year or so ago? Either way, the EBC discs still save you a fair chunk against the oem ones. -

My philosophy when it comes to tyres is that the tyres are the only physical point of contact between your car and the road surface, and you need to have as much confidence in that point of contact as possible. If you arent 100% confident in the brand of tyre, then dont fit them. -
EBC Pads and Discs From Cougar Store 350z

I have the ones above (turbo groove) all round - the key for me was not only do they look and perform better than the standard discs, but they are also cheaper. I had a couple of discs on my car that were scored quite badly and needed replacing - having all four corners replaced with these EBC discs was (from memory) at least £1,000+ cheaper than replacing with standard discs from Nissan. -
Self assessment doesnt have to be taxing
Chesterfield replied to Chesterfield's topic in Off Topic Discussion
As I take dividends as a director, I get the joys of filling it in every year. Last year they wouldnt speak to me as I wasnt answering the security questions correctly, it turned out that they had my address recorded incorrectly, but it took four attempts of phoning in and providing details and changing the adress each time before they would speak to me. I did contemplate just not bothering, becuase after all as they had my address wrong - where would they send the heavies? Then they decided I had been a director for 3 years longer than I actually had, so sent me tax returns for those years, and then fined me £100 for not fillinng them in, I had to send the signed company docs stating when I took the position before they refunded me that. Then they have best guessed with my dividends until I send the form in. Both myself and my brother have EXACTLY the same income, yet our tax codes are considerably different. The whole system is a shower of sh1t if Im honest. It amazes me that you can go to the Jobcentre and they will happily sit down for hours explaining to someone exactly how they apply for benefits and showing them the processes for ensuring they get everything entitled to - yet the tax office give you the most complicated system ever known to man, and expect you to work your own way through it... -
Has anyone else come to the conclusion that the above statement is just the biggest load of b*ll*cks? I think if HMRC tried hard enough, they could probably make the process just that little bit more complicated. In fact if it was mandatory to fill in whilst standing on your head, I think that would possibly be the only way of making this more troublesome.

And if it started raining on the way home, I know which Id rather be in. The one with a roof.

Ive had the following carried out by ESR/Fletch Polished fluid cans Bonnet lifters Strut Brace New discs and pads all round removal and replacement of both rear shocks Air intake P1 Service Although based over 130 miles away, I had no hesitation in making the journey to have the parts fitted. I also chose to have the service undertaken at ESR at the same time, as I prefered to have a knowledgeable and reputable company/person attend to the car. I have had experience in the servicing (and level of service) provided by mainstream garages for my 350Z and also for the company cars we have. In both cases I have decided that for both competitive pricing and quality of service that independent garges will receive my business for all those needs. In the specific case of the 350Z, and or any other similar performance vehicle in the future, I would be confident in the services of Fletch and would happily make the same 130+ mile journey to have the car serviced (or subjected to any additions/modifications) in the future. Regards, Chris.

Fully agree - took us 3 months to remove someone who was no good in the job, the hoops you have to jump through are a joke. The tax burden on small businesses is also somewhat of a joke. It almost certainly stifles growth of small businesses in the majority of cases in the UK. Successive governments have over time created a benefits system which also actively works against small busines. Advertise a job with starting salary of £11k, and you may as well sit with your thumb up your backside as wait for any applications to come in. A couple on the dole, one child, no jobs and a "bad back" will net much more than that courtesy of DSS anyway, so whats the point. We've also bred a culture in the UK whereby students seem to think that because they have a degree, its their god given right to start on £25k+, and if they dont get a job on that, they just bleat and moan abot how hard it is. And with the ability to get a degree in ever diverse and more pointless subjects, a degere today counts for a heck of a lot less than it did. Rather than doing what many in the past did and take any job and actually gain experience, they see many positions as "beneath" them. Then we get those shouting from the rooftops that the immigrants have come in and "stolen" UK jobs.., the same jobs that many UK jobless see as "beneath them"... Laughable really.
