joshwest008
Hi guys, I own a 2004 350z which had a very hard life from it's previous owner as i found out the hard way. Long story short the car wore away its main bearings and done some damage to con rod. the main bearings have been replaced as a short term fix, but unsure whether to repair it or potentially go for an engine swap. Just wondering if anyone knows costs and anyone who would be able to do such magical things at fair price in south of UK, Cheers, JW
Keyser
If you are not going for a forged engine build then engine swap is the way ahead (cost wise) - decent VQ35DE will cost between £750 and £2000 depending on age, condition, mileage and who provides it. Check with Clarke Motorsport and Zmanalex - both traders on here for a pre-owned engine. Horsham Developments (Newbury) would be a good choice for an engine swap or any trustworthy local garage - not sure on cost I've seen quotes from £800 - £2000. to the forum and Good Luck
evilscorp
Sorry to hear this, probably going to become quite common now. Engine swap is probably the way I would go, couple of the guys on here are doing some fruity ones just now so have a look, you might get some ideas. dannybz
Hi Josh, is the car showing any signs of these problems? How do you know?

Luke0549
I'm sure the zed shed could provide assistance?! Either break for parts and make your money back. Sell as it is and lose a fair amount. Or make it a project car and put in a new engine or put a lsx/2jz/something wild in.
joshwest008
Thanks for all the replies Hi Josh, is the car showing any signs of these problems? How do you know? Had plenty of oil in it, driving home, engine switched off and oil light came on when restarted and huge knocking noise... sounded like go kart when you went on the throttle... heartbreaking. Sent it to garage and had the engine out to which the main bearings are unbelievably thin and know the con rods damaged as the new bearings didn't need any pressure to get fitted on... :L I'm sure the zed shed could provide assistance?! Sorry new to all of this forum stuff haha, whats zed shed? I would love to make it into project but simply do not have the time or money atm. So you guys think it would be wise to search breakers for a VQ engine and find a quote for Horsham developments (fairly local and you all seem to recommend it) to see how much they'd charge to put it in? Forged internals just seems outlandish cost wise, especially how much the cars valued at. Edited April 26, 2015 by joshwest008

newkid
I may have an engine coming up for sale. I have just written off my zed but the engine bay is untouched. Still runs perfectly well and it's only got 60k miles on the engine. It runs sweet as a nut. Edited April 26, 2015 by newkid

Shut off on its own, wasn't fun when i was going round a bend and the power steering went...

How much would you want for the engine? The standard or RevUp or HR? Assuming you have the equipment to get it out?
newkid
Unfortunately the insurance company are not allowing me to buy it back so it's no longer available. Sorry 😕
Ekona
You do realise that the car is yours, and they have no legal right to keep it? Cancel the claim and the car remains your property to do with what you will.
Rock_Steady
If you replaced the main bearings, you should've got a new con rod/s at the same time. One of those bearings is going to wear out a lot quicker than the others. You'll end up forking out twice.
