alexwitham Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Hi Guys, I'm on the market for an electric polisher. I wanted your recommendations, I don't want to spend a fortune as it'd only be for polishing my daily driver - I'm no professional detailer. Also, what good value light cutting polishing compounds are good for gunmetal paint on the 350z to remove minor marring and swirls Thanks Quote
Lexx Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Get a Kestrel DA6. Perfect for what you want. Polished Bliss sell some good starter kits with pads, compounds, and the DA Polisher. 2 Quote

martybhoy Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 I've just ordered one of these. They seem to have great reviews regardless of the lower cost. Can only wait and see now. Quote
alexwitham Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 I will be ordering one too a little later in the year - let me know your thoughts 1 Quote
Tay Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I'm looking at just buying the discs that fit onto a standard cordless drill, anyone used them and are they any good? Quote
RobPhoboS Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 My very kind mother got me a Dodo Juice - Spin Doctor rotary one Christmas, I really like it ! Quote
ilogikal1 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I'm looking at just buying the discs that fit onto a standard cordless drill, anyone used them and are they any good? If you're just spot treating the odd scratch they're okay (as in adequate). If you're planning on doing the whole car, I'd be surprised if you got a single panel done before getting frustrated with it or breaking yourself in the process. Quote
ilogikal1 Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 It's tedious with a drill and difficult to keep a constant, regulated pressure for long. Especially on vertical panels! Quote
RobPhoboS Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I'm looking at just buying the discs that fit onto a standard cordless drill, anyone used them and are they any good? If they were any good, a lot more people would use them... Just get a rotary or a DA Quote
350zedd Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I'm looking at just buying the discs that fit onto a standard cordless drill, anyone used them and are they any good? A cordless drill is just not designed for this type of work, and you would probably end up burning it out. As others have said.......get yourself the right tool for the job...a DA Quote
-Bradders- Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 As Lexx said http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1c4ae9b0ac Get this one, its a penny less lol! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kestrel-DAS6-Dual-Action-500W-Polisher-Mopping-Polishing-Detailing/111631721635?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D29952%26meid%3Dd87aed0b34344ffab72065c5cb2c5e0a%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D121515913388&rt=nc 1 Quote
Tay Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 (edited) Good points, cheers So i take it that spending 100odd quid is worth it? These devises will make polishing the car how easy? I ask cause the snowfoam is great for a quick easy clean, the hand polishing is the time consuming thing, how quickly can you give it a showroom sparkle compared to doing it by hand? I want to polish my lights and things up, so i'm guessing this is the only way to do it easily? Edited April 1, 2015 by Tay Quote
GIXXERUK Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 You can get better results but it's quicker by hand .., ooh missus ! Quote
MrChow Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) Lidl this week, £16.99 for an electric polisher. 3 year warranty Edit; oh and 4 mops, 2 towel & 2 fur Edited April 4, 2015 by MrChow Quote
Tay Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Will be making a trip over tomorrow then to see if my local has any left. I would like to take then dullness out of my headlight and doing it by hand is not working. Quote
martybhoy Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 I used the kestrel machine today. Very good I have to say especially consider the price of its rivals. Quote
MrChow Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Just washed and machine polished mine today with my Lidl's special, using Meguiars ultimate compound.Gotta say it done an awesome job. Paint is silky smooth and seems to have a deep finish to it. Well chuffed Quote

Quite fancy one at that price Quote
Tay Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Ok, now i'm interested, I've been looking at reviews on the detailing forum and they hate it. Other peoples comments have been along the lines of 'started the car and gave up as its hard work' and 'What a POS am not happy' Or 'wish id saved up a bit more and got a decent DA or rotary' http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=112426 Quote

Quite fancy one at that price It's not too bad to be fair, it comes with a 3 year warranty so you've kinda got that safety net. I found rather than pushing down on the handles onto the surface, I just let the thing glide across the panel. Made it a lot easier to manoeuvre. And also keep the panel moist with a sprayer really helped... Quote
