350z DE Engine - Which engine oil to use?

Hi everyone,

 

My 350z is due a service now and I remember reading threads in the past that say we should be careful in which engine oil we use as some have bad effects?

 

Mine is a 2004 reg with the DE engine and has done around 100,000 miles.

 

Which engine oil would you recommend and why?

Everyone is suggesting different engine oils in all different threads, and some threads are dated now.

 

I'm just asking for a straight forward answer, which engine oil is the best to use for a DE engine?

5w30 fully synthetic, we use and supply the Motul oil...

There is no 'best'. Personally I'd be running a 10w-30 in a Zed of that mileage, but that's just an opinion. On a lower mileage car, I'd prob go for a 5w-30.

Nissan recommend fully synth 5W30, however as Dan has said might be worth considering 10W30 for your application.

Thank you guys. Are there any particular reasons as to why my mileage may affect the grade of oil I may put in?

More mileage means more wear, means you may want a thicker oil from cold to prevent further wear.

Euro car parts is suggesting I should put in Shell Engine Oil (Helix Ultra 5W-40 5Ltr). Will this be fine?

Now that's a different question ... your original question has been answered by the guys who know about these things for 350 ZEDS ... if you want another unbiased opinion, just ask your local chippy [sarcasm] [wit] ( they may have some old chip fat ) [/sarcasm] [/wit]

Yes that will be fine, I always ran mine on Shell Helix semi synth 10W40, and as yous has 100k on the engine I would be inclined to run a slightly thicker oil IE 10W40 rather than 5 or 10W30.
