gstraw Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Hey I'm after a Le Mans blue touch up pen but nissan don't do this colour any more. Any ideas where I can get it? Someone's already tried touching up the car with what looks like a navy so I really want the colour to match exactly. Any existing Le Mans owners who have used a pen please advise? Thanks Quote
a2orry Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Go to a body shop suppliers they won't have a pen but will mix you a tenth of a litre. Quote
Ponsonby Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Nissan don't do Temper Orange either. There are some companies on the internet that will mix it for you if you give them the paint code. Quote
Will370z Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Yup same problem they don't do black rose. Just get the paint code from nissan (it will be a 3 letter code) then any decent paint shop will be able to mix some up for you Quote
sipar69 Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 (edited) I think the code should be on the plate on the inside of the driver door sill. Quick search indicates the code = RAE (but double check of course) Edited May 22, 2014 by sipar69 Quote

gstraw Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 Thanks guys. Strange how kids a don't have it or they should at least provide the service of mixing it up for you if it's not available off the shelf. Had a look at paints 4 u and they have loads of different kinds. What's best? I hear people use a toothpick to fill up the paint slowly? Quote
Paddy78 Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 As with anything, prep work and patience is the key to a decent job... which is why anything I do usually doesn't turn out too well! Tooth pick is a very good idea. There are loads of videos on youtube for tips on techniques etc. Quote
ed divine Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Another recommendation for paints4u brilliant service and product from them always use them. Quote
Suits Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 I have touch up pens for my LMB. Mixed up especially by Motorline, I'll see if I still have the mixes. Quote

Paints4U do touch up spears as kits with their touch up paints these are small and pointed specifically for fine touch up lines Added this https://www.paints4u.com/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=6912 Edited May 22, 2014 by cmck13 Quote

If it's just the usual stone chips on the bumper then you'll probably be ok with the tooth pick approach, but you could also investigate a solution called Chipex which works quite well for chips (just Google it). Anything more than a chip and I'd be quite wary about trying to repair it yourself. I posted quite some time ago about wasting about a £100 on products to try to mask a small but quite deep and noticeable scratch I got on my previous 370Zs door from a lamp post. In the end I couldn't get a finish I was happy with and ended up getting it sorted by a bodyshop. Yes it was expensive but the result was a totally invisible repair - well worth the money for me as leaving it as it was would have bugged me to death. Quote
apcarter Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 i managed to get a can of spray paint mixed up. from a body shop. to touch up the stone chips think it was £6 some with have flake init. just spray a bit on some card and got a fine paint brush and did it that way. Quote
cmp999 Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Took the paint code to Halfords and they mixed it for me, also Le Mans Blue! 1 Quote
gstraw Posted May 26, 2014 Author Posted May 26, 2014 I went to halfords too but they said their paint doesn't have lawyer mixed into it and it's a seep rate spray can. I've heard the best and neat way of doing stone chips is to get the laquer mixed in then build up with toothpick. Cmp how did yours look after you touched it up? Any pics? Quote
cmp999 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Sorry no pics, I used a cocktail stick to fill the chips also you can buy cheap artist paint brushes from the Range (shop), not brilliant but better than the chip, cheers, Colin. Quote
