longsh07 Posted November 13, 2013 Share Posted November 13, 2013 Im looking into getting myself a proper trolley jack since the Halfords jobby that I keep borrowing off my Dad is now too tall to fit under both my 106 and my 350 Happy to spend decent money on one as I know it will get a lot of use but wasn't sure if it was worth going with a light weight aluminium one or a regular (steel?) one. Lightweight would be easier for me as I don't have a garage to work on the car in so it cant just be wheeled over to the car (will be stored in the shed and dragged/carry it across my gravel drive). On the other hand I've read people don't rate the aluminium ones because of their strength? R35LEE Posted November 13, 2013 Share Posted November 13, 2013 Nothing wrong with Alloy jacks mate, we use both alloy and steel at work. Allow ones are great if your moving them around a lot. Strength has never been an issue with any of ours. SamN Posted November 13, 2013 Share Posted November 13, 2013 I have a nice big Clarke 2.5T Aluminium one, it was something like £155 from Machine mart and as fantastic! They do a slightly lower profile one for a little more money also but I've found mine fine and I have some low cars! It's generally ok but if not a plank of wood solves the problem. The ramps are good temporary solution actually while I decide on what to get.
