Bonnet Bulge - What does it mean?

Ah ok, so sort of like a 'facelift' version then?

The HR engine on the 07's is slightly taller than the DE engine, so the earlier bonnet just won't fit. You can however fit the bulge bonnet onto the earlier cars, quite a popular mod.

Different engine, hence the bulge

Yep, the HR engine would not fit under the DE and uprev DE bonnet

PS ...

the HR engine is identified by a dipstick that was not designed by a dipstick

The bulge is due to the 313 HR engine. Although it sits lower in the engine bay than in the earlier DE versions the block is actually longer hence the actual requirement for the bulge.

That must be the first Z dipstick to have not been designed by a dipstick then, as my 280zx and z32 300zx both have dipsticks designed by dipsticks!

Standard Z = 2003 - 2006 ......276bhp

Facelift version = MY06 onwards (this refers to a range of small improvements on these models, eg., improved quality interior, speed sensitive power steering and LED rear taillight cluster - plus other things) .......296bhp

Bonnet Bulge = MY07 onwards (taller engine 'with 80% new components', apparently) .......313bhp

Edited to add bhp's

What the hell does PS stand for? I hate measuring in kw!!!! Whats wrong with torque and bhp?

PS stands for Pferdestärke (horse-strength in German)

280 PS = 276 BHP = 206 KW (in round figures)
