downhuman Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) Just driven home from a mechanic friend's who fitted my Stillen HFCs to my HR with Milltek. WTF is the buzzing noise at 4krpm? And does it go?! Thanks Rob Edited February 25, 2013 by downhuman Quote
Paddy78 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Rasp? Pretty common with HFC's I believe. I'm going to be getting some Berks for my Nismo in a few weeks, I'm dreading not liking the new sound! Is it possible they're not fitted correctly as this could cause problems? Quote
dErZ Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Thats the noise HFC's make. You'll have to learn to love it. Quote
coldel Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I had Berk HFCs, which also had a 'clatter/rasp' sound - quite common and you actually get used to it - worth it for the extra growl. Quote
downhuman Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 OK, do they coke up a bit? They're fitted properly, with 02 spacers... Gaskets/ gasket paste too so now blows. And is exactly at 4krpm Reminds me of the Racing Puma I owned briefly Quote
Clarkie Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Paddy I wouldn't worry, Nismo exhaust with Berk HFCs is one of the sweetest sounds you will ever hear. 1 Quote
downhuman Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 Maybe Stillen are buzzier?Anyone else got them? Quote
The G Man Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 OK, do they coke up a bit? They're fitted properly, with 02 spacers... Gaskets/ gasket paste too so now blows. And is exactly at 4krpm Reminds me of the Racing Puma I owned briefly I think they must, my set up had the familiar rasp from the Berks, I liked it but it was on the overrun. Has since gone but I have an awesome sound now, reminds me of a Borla 1 Quote
downhuman Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 Cheers G Man. Let's see.....!! Quote
spursmaddave Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Do you have any induction kit? I have a pop charger which really growls from 3.5k upwards and if you don't like the rasp etc that can help... Also do you have a plenum spacer fitted that seems to lower the exhaust note slightly too, did on mine anyway.... Other than that all I will say is Berks > Stillen with a Milltek obviously as everyone I know with a Berks/Milltek combo absolutely loves it Quote
downhuman Posted February 23, 2013 Author Posted February 23, 2013 No, no induction kit mate nor spacer as it is an HR car... Most people on the US Forums agree it settles down quite a bit.... TBH when I got my racing puma (waaaay raspier) I thought it sounded broken lol Quote
Keyser Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Just get a Vortech SC All I hear is that O and a light weight fly wheel and multi plate clutch gives a nice rattle at idle as well 1 Quote
dragon Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 i've got berks+invidia and its settled down nicely and sounds Quote
rtbiscuit Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 I had hfc's with an invidia g200 and that never raped, but I did get both 2nd hand so they were already coked up. Quote
rtbiscuit Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 That should say rasped, bloody predictive text 1 Quote
Dblock Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 That should say rasped, bloody predictive text I know but it was just unfortunate. Quote
spursmaddave Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 My Berks were 2nd hand too so again must have helped. Quote
downhuman Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 never raped, Damn, I wish you corrected that quicker. I just snuck up on the HFC's from behind and, well.... now I'm traumatised Quote
HaydnH Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 That should say rasped, bloody predictive text I know but it was just unfortunate. Surely it's fortunate for rtbiscuit? Not having been... Quote
downhuman Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 Right, longer drive today - still a buzz which I'm not sure about Also, the car behaved a little oddly - flooring it when high up in the revs made it feel a bit hesitant and there was a little popping Is this normal? Car has Zmanalex 02 spacers installed. Quote

Car has Zmanalex 02 spacers installed. Try an ECU reset and see if that helps. There has been evidence that some Zeds with induction/exhausts mods run a little lean at WOT, something not usually spotted until it gets on a dyno. Quote
downhuman Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 Thanks mate - I intend to get an UpRev map done at some point soon so hopefully that will help to I presume ECU reset = disconnect battery? Quote
