No sky for me

Not to impressed with sky insurance. Rang for a quote only to be told they couldn't quote and to try again next year !

I'm an old fart of 65 as is my only named driver, the wife. Neither of us have any points and she had one fault claim in 2011 when she reversed off the drive and into a neighbours car ( first claim in around 20yrs). I've got 12 yrs no claims and the most exotic mod on the car are wheel spacers.

Can't understand what more they want to enable them to quote

I'm afraid I won't be calling them ever again

PS

I should have said the wife was driving her own car at the time and not the Z

please remember that Sky are an insurance broker, not an actual insurer.

They are not the one refusing you insurance, it's the companies they actually deal with.

Yeah I was aware of that  but if they want Z insurance punters there going to have to do better and sign up suitable Ins Co's! ( or maybe they don't want Zedies

, or maybe it's cos I'm a wrinkly or maybe it's cos I'm a Geordie or maybe they think I'm too good looking, or maybe.......)

Wouldn't insure me last year as I didn't have a garage and apparently Dartford is twinned with Beirut !

Phoned them this year along with all the 'specialist' insurers we have on the forum and all were around twice the price of Admiral.

In fact we now have the Zed & the Leon on multicar for less than any of the guys on here would even do the Zed for :p

Hi,

if anyone has a specific query as to why we can or cannot help, feel free to PM me.

We're competitive for the majority but cannot help everyone.

The fault claim will be the issue here, whilst we can quote, without looking at the details I would assume that our rate was uncompetitive so we have not offered a price.

Thanks for trying us and apologies we couldn't help.

I phoned Sky for the first 2 years of Z ownership and they wouldn't quote me, didn't bother phoning for the 3rd year.

That's a shame, we may be the most competitive company you can find whilst also offering a much better level of cover than your average insurer, on the other hand, we may not.

I'm always at the end of a PM if you wish to check whether we can help or be competitive, usually I'd need, age, postcode, NCB level and a brief list of mods.

Thanks

I don't blame you guys as your not really making the decision on what it costs. But maybe I live in a high risk area as not one quote came out competitive. Plus pretty much everyone in my house is insured with admiral as they seem silly cheap.

Not really read much with this forum but the Clio one I know you have a lot of customers that you saved a lot of money and they say the service is great.

Don't worry they quoted my brothers wife £2500 to get insured on my 172. It's £450 with admiral

This is the doubled edged sword I mention. We have two options if we have an uncompetitive rate, we quote it or we decline to quote, either way we'll pick up criticism.

Same story here i'm 60 as soon as i told them my postcode they couldn't insure

I moved from Bedford to rural Norfolk and my insurance went up! how can the backwaters of yokel-land be more of a risk than living next to Bedford and Luton??

Possibly less people around to spot thieves?

Fast rural roads perhaps equal more expensive crashes resulting in more expensive insurance payouts.

It would seem Sky are very selective of area, if your area is deemed outside their preffered risk then not a chance, makes a bit of a mockery of being a 'car club' specialist, you would think that the fact we are members here and take pride in our cars would count more than a post code or having a garage.

I have found this with most of the other so called specialist insurers who apparently cater for modifications etc but ONLY if your post code suits

If there wasn't too much of a gap I might be tempted but when all the so called 'specialists' are twice as much as a mainstream insurer with ALL mods declared then its very poor imo

I paid a bit extra to be with Sky this year, almost 10% more I think, but I did that because I wanted my mods covered to their value. Admiral would only have given me standard parts back if I had an accident, and the risk wasn't worth the saving. Depends on whether you see insurance as a necessary evil or if you want it to give you protection/peace of mind I guess.

The fact that some specialist insurers can be double a mainstream shouldn't come as any surprise, as it's no difference to when you Gocomparethemoneysupermeerkat and end up with some premiums in the £8K range. Some insurers want the business and will take the risk, some don't want will price themselves out of the risk. Truth is that people driving modified sports cars have some of the highest value claims in the event of an accident, so insurers need to protect themselves against that risk.

You are absolutely right we are selective, we do not want to open our books up to high risks which could potentially take our specialist schemes away from us, at times our underwriting restrictions are frustrating for us as well but on a whole, we're comfortable with our area criteria and restrictions.

Thanks for trying an apologies we couldn't help.
