nixy Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Pretty sure my clutch is on the way out. When i set off in first gear I get terrible juddering. This was horrendous today when doing a slight hill start. Seems to be a bit intermittent. Is this a symptom? No other signs as yet. This is typical - just sold my Clio shed and will have to use the cash to sort it! Quote

If revs rise, clutch is f00bed. Quote

Big Rob Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Mine does this too, it's worst when doing a hill start. Other than this though it's fine, I can drop a load of revs on it and the car takes off like a rocket. Strange. I figure I need a new clutch although it might be the flywheel at fault. Anyways I'll have to get both. On a positive note though mine's been like this for a few thousand miles now with no change so I guess yours will last a while yet. Quote

JetSet Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Pretty sure my clutch is on the way out. When i set off in first gear I get terrible juddering. Best get it attended to I reckon, my experience of a juddering clutch was not a good one, read on..... I had severe clutch judder on an MG many years ago. The car was brand new and when I complained (several times) the dealer I bought it from made an appointment for me to take it to the main dealer in Chester. After the chief mechanic drove it he said it was "typical" for this particular car so I shrugged my shoulders and carried on, a few weeks later with just 1,500 miles on the clock the clutch "exploded" and was replaced on warranty, together with the entire exhaust which was about to fall off apparently . Chris AME Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 The judder is a good sign the clutch is on way out, best to get it checked out before it lets you down. Quote
RisingPower Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 I'm not sure what you're saying? My clutch judders occasionally on hill starts, sometimes level ground, not exactly when being stupid with using too much gas either at the time. However, clutch throwout bearing is also noisy for me and the biting point on the clutch seems pretty high. Can't get it to slip whilst moving though. Quote
roscopervis Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 The judder is the dual mass failing. The slip is the clutch plate failing. The dual mass element can fail long before the plate gets worn and cause juddering before slippage. Quote
