trouble selling the zed

Recommended Posts

Hmm, good question. Tbh I'd write an ad like this:

Nissan 350Z GT Coupe, 2003

55,000 miles

FNSH

6 months tax & MOT

Then some blurb about how long you've owned it, how lovingly you've looked after it, no expense spared, only used at weekends, that sort of rubbish  highlight any bad points next, be honest but don't make them sound the end of the world, then finish with a few lines saying just what a great example it is and you'll miss it.

Generic rubbish perhaps, but it works and will make your ad stand out. Front load it with the important info so you don't waste people's time, and then gush but don't put stuff in like electric windows, airbags etc as no-one cares and it's irritating to read. :)

All just my opinion and I should state that I've never sold a car privately, so this is only what I like to read when browsing ads!

 thanks that will help loads. i may post the write up that i do on here to see if i can get pointers, or would that be considered selling without the 100 posts?

It would be considered selling I'm afraid, and I would remove it.

Sorry feller, but rules are rules.

Shoot me a PM and I'll take a look at it if you like, seeing as how you've been pretty good about obeying the rules on here :)

You're only 77 posts away. Make a few valuable contributions to the forum for a couple of weeks and you will qualify to advertise here as well as anywhere else you choose to.

If it didn't sell then either;

it was priced too high

ad was crap

pics were crap

Almost every single time I've sold a car the buyer has pretty much just phoned up, asked to see it and bought it. The main reason I feel is that my ads answer every single question the buyer could possibly ask including pictures from every angle including interior, under the bonnet and boot. I'll detail the full service history including when the last one was and what was done and also when the next one is due and which one it is. Cover all consumables to include their current status and when they were last changed such as clutch, tyres and brake discs and pads.

I'll also detail things such a tyre tread depth, known faults with the car and whether my car has had them sorted, tax and mot cost and length left. Include where you bought it and when and also why your selling it and what your moving on to.

Pictures are key. Don't use crappy locations, I'm easily put off by shitty pictures.

If I was buying a zed I would want to know;

Do the axles click?

Does the Bose jump?

Are the RAYS corroded?

When was the clutch changed?

Have the services been carried out correctly?

Are the interior plastics scratched to death?

Does the boot shut itself on your head when you open it?

Is the front end pebble dashed?

So put it all in your ad

And use proper grammer and language. Txt spk is gonna send me running!

Think outside the proverbial box as well, the weather has been awful, no respite from it, who is looking to buy a rear wheel drive sports car at the moment? There could be a multitude of things going on which are putting people off as well as your ad.

Sounds daft, but have you tried sticking a For Sale sign in the window? My dad just sold his BMW in a day doing exactly that, no premium cost postings on PH or anything, just selling it the old fashioned way

Car market flooded.

Specialist car

Buyers market

Bottom line you have GOT to make the ad stand out other wise it's just another in the myriad of adverts.

Price usually is the major factor in lack of interest though. I just spent over 65 quid advertising my z4 and eventually sold it on a free advert on the z4 forum.

Also worth checking the driftworks forum as its pretty busy. Think there's minimum posts there for selling too but less than here so worth checking. I've sold my last 3 cars in there :) also as said good ad and photos are essential

This may seem a little daft but i don't think i'd want to sell my pride and joy on a forum like drift works.

'Take care of her,' and all that...

Who cares? Once I've got the money I couldn't care what happens to it

I've had Saffy on here since April, on Autotrader for a month and she was on Pistonheads for 48hrs ... - I think that says it all really ;)

As the guys have said make it friendly and ensure that the reader understands how well the car has been looked after - a Q&A section is also handy
